What's your favourite medical term that is commonly mispronounced? Mine is definitely "aspirational pneumonia", like it has grand plans to become bilateral consolidation from its meager beginnings of a small patch of opacification in the right base.

A quick #VEXUS thread 🧵- 3 reasons why the portal vein is the most useful single venous doppler waveform 🥇 (if you're only going to do ONE site to look for venous congestion, this is probably the most useful one!)

🎬 2nd chapter ...🧵This a thread about 1.3% sodium bicarbonate🧂 (aka isotonic bicarb drip) in critical care. ☝🏻 If you missed the first part about 8.4% bicarb, I would strongly recommend you to read it before moving on 🏃🏻. x.com/jackdeliuc/sta…

...🧵This is a thread about 8.4% sodium bicarbonate (aka bicarb amp) in critical care. This the first part in a series of three about sodium bicarbonate 🧂in critical care: 🧐I will get in deep to complexities, benefits, risks and clinical implications of this (overused) drug.

@ProfMarkTaubert They would make the choice to live. However, I still feel quite strongly that a lack of a properly resourced health system is in principle still not a reason to give others the choice. Call me idealistic, but that's my conviction.

@ProfMarkTaubert You see way more of this than I, and I totally appreciate this argument. I also understand the point of view that regardless of safeguards there may still be people who are overtly or covertly influenced into making the decision perhaps unnecessarily, and that with better support

Health Secretary Wes Streeting said part of the reason he could not vote for assisted dying was because palliative care was not good enough. Now is the time to fix that. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@ProfMarkTaubert I would totally agree it's essential, but also appreciate how difficult it must be to run a robust RCT in this area.

@rhys_jon A fair bit now, evidence base has grown from poor to better. Ethics of researching this area can be challenging, but I would argue it is essential

@ProfMarkTaubert I agree that the evidence isn't necessarily there, but how much high quality evidence is there around the experience in dying in general?

@ProfMarkTaubert Agree that an emphasis on high quality and equitable palliative care should be at the forefront of this debate and process, but I still don't feel that should prevent those of sound mind the choice of choosing assisted dying if they want to. The two things should run in parallel

If you’re getting worked up about the change in inheritance tax for farmers have a listen to this and stop being manipulated into believing this is something it isn’t. Go on I dare you. Or just keep furiously believing Farage, Clarkson, the Tory party and Musk (who hasn’t got a clue about what is actually happening and believes he doesn’t need to do so to compare Stalin to Starmer) meaningless drivel
The Rest Is Money@therestismoney

How many farmers will actually be affected by the changes to inheritance tax? @DanNeidle does the math...

I’ve been doing night shifts for most of my working life. Now, on the verge of 50, the dread as I get in to bed to try to ‘bank some sleep’ is reaching a point where I do wonder if it’s good for me physically or psychologically. The shift will be fine, but before and after suck.
