Been saying it for long, but fascism is truly order of the day in South Africa and it feels like it could still get a lot worse. Lazy thinking, cheap politicking & dehumanisation is everywhere. We need to be constantly organising against this brain and heart rotting descent.

Remember also when they bought it from ISCOR it had 65 000 employees. When the government sold it the public were told that it would lead to job creation.We are always told that private business is better and more efficient than state enterprises.

This former SOE was state subsidised and built Newcastle and Vanderbijlpark from its operational activities. It created immeasurable social dividends that include a huge artisan base in the Afrikaner community etc. There is no pvt sector efficiency that will replicate that.

3,500 JOBS AT RISK ArcelorMittal South Africa (AMSA) will shut down its long steel business, centred around the Newcastle mill, leading to up to 3,500 job losses. AMSA cited unsustainable energy and logistics costs, cheap steel imports (especially from China), and government inaction despite calls for policy support. The wind-down will affect all long steel plants, including Newcastle Works and Vereeniging Works. Steel production will end by January 2025, with full closure by March 2025. AMSA expects R2.7-billion in asset impairment and retrenchment costs, worsening its projected annual losses. AMSA’s revenue is forecast to drop 5% in 2024. @realDonaldTru97 @BBC So the SA govt has put a clause in place that gives the BBC and all international broadcasters the right to not pay South African actors residuals ( royalties) for any international work they do in perpetuity, so if you are hired in Africa, you are immediately exploited.
