@laura_laker I find Komoot is very good at finding the routes with cycle infra or lightly trafficked alternatives. I use Komoot on my phone, clipped to the bars for short rides. For longer ones I upload the route to a GPS Regards, Richard Ingham, Bicycle Mayor of Cumbria

Just thought I’d put this out again. In case people have forgotten. Because it’s still true: Lowest carbon✅ Lowest cost ✅ Big health benefits ✅ Highest return on investment ✅ I could go on.....

Cycling traffic across England is up 7.4% on pre-pandemic levels. Not only does active travel like cycling and walking promote healthy travel but helps grow the economy through increased high street spending and better access to jobs. #Cycling #Walking #ActiveTravel

🌧️ It's a messy weather picture on #FridayMorning with showery rain possible in places, as well as a few fog patches first thing 🌦️ There'll also be some drier and brighter periods in more central and northern regions of the UK and it will be windy in northern Scotland

Rush hour in Delft, the Netherlands. I got bored filming after one minute because the steady stream of people cycling showed no sign of ending, but you get the idea.

Took the kids and the dog to the National Bike Week Road Show @ Millenium Place yesterday. Here's a little video of our ride down some of the #coundoncycleway

@KarenGee3 Couldn't agree more, Karen. And much of the old cycling infra was just a tick box exercise

Car traffic in London must reduce by 27% by 2030 to meet our targets to tackle air pollution & the climate emergency. More than 1/3 of car trips can be walked in under 25min & 2/3 could be cycled in under 20 minutes.

@ormondroyd @EdMRound @anotherJon We must believe we can change things for the better. Continental nations have successfully already embraced these changes and they transform the high street experience!

@Chris_Boardman This is the right place for a zebra Xing - close to junctions where traffic is already slowing down. Yes, we need to catch up with the rest of the world!

250 million car journeys in Greater Manchester alone are less than 1km Over 3/4 of parents said this would make them more like to walk with their kids to schools So, really hope the evidence will lead to us being able to conduct large scale trials.👇

@nedboulting Agreed. Substandard cycle infrastructure does nobody any favours. Your example is the norm in UK design. The good news is the forthcoming new Highway Code will give priority to cyclists and peds over turning traffic

@adamtranter Removing the hatching releases up to 3m of width to accommodate segregated cycle track, too - one on each side. Hatching is so greedy for motor traffic

How many roads near you have a layout like this? Conventional wisdom suggested central hatching would slow drivers down, but studies showed removing it actually decreased vehicle speeds. We could rapidly make much better use of this space to enable safe cycling infrastructure.

With the summer holidays well underway, we're hoping that lots of people are making plans to head out on their bikes. So if you're driving, remember to give them at least a car’s width when overtaking. Please don’t pass #TooCloseForComfort.
