This is a deeply shocking antisemitic arson attack.  My thoughts are with the Jewish community who are waking up this morning to this horrific news.  Antisemitism has no place in our society.  Anyone with any information must come forward to the police.

Everyone deserves to feel safe in this country. Two weeks ago, following the horrific terrorist attack in Manchester, I saw first-hand the fear inside the Jewish community, and I promised to do everything in my power to guarantee them the security they deserve. That started with a more visible police presence – and today we are giving extra funding to ramp up security around synagogues and faith schools. More must be done. Tackling hatred and extremism in our society is a challenge for our whole country. It’s on all of us to tackle this evil – and I am determined my government will leave no stone unturned to protect Jewish people in all parts of life.

I condemn Israel’s strikes on Doha, which violate Qatar’s sovereignty and risk further escalation across the region.   The priority must be an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and a huge surge in aid into Gaza.   This is the only solution towards long-lasting peace.

Alarmed by further strikes in the Middle East overnight, with reports of fatalities and injuries in Israel. We must urgently de-escalate & prevent any further harm to civilians. Following the Prime Minister's call with PM Netanyahu, I spoke to Iranian FM Araghchi to urge calm.

Embarrassing, but no better than we deserve. While Israel takes out the biggest threat to peace in the Middle East, the UK is left on the sidelines, tutting furiously.
