@ChairmanDLRMFC Clearly none of us qualify as "hard working people"
English

This 2025 Budget hits working people: frozen income‑tax thresholds, pension salary‑sacrifice perks cut, higher dividend & investment taxes, plus rising fuel/mileage costs & new wealth levies. #Budget2025 #TaxHike #WorkingPeople
English

"More money in the pockets of working people" but not if you're working as a Ltd company director, huh Rachel. Nice 5% (real terms) tax increase for me. Cheers Rach. A real kick in the teeth for @ExcludedUK too who got NOTHING during covid #Budget2026
English

@harry_qp … Wages aren’t going up that much. So when does it stop?
English

@harry_qp …I can’t get that money and much of it is hidden in a mortgage. You flippantly implied paying 1600 more a year was like small change - but for most of us these rises are crippling when monthly bills are up by up to 30% since covid (in my case > £1k/PCM already)… 2/3
English

This isn’t most people though - our proposal would only ask the top 10% of households to pay more. Most people aren’t able to even buy a house let alone one worth more than £600k. And our proposal would give a tax cut to 80% of households. Because they are the ones who need help

Listening to @harry_qp and @KirstieMAllsopp on @BBCr4today @harry_qp suggestiny 1600/yr is not much extra to pay is clearly divorced from reality of most ppl. Also no mention of mortgages. A £1m house might have a 90% mortgage. Ppl aren’t asset rich. #mansiontax
English

@gooseflight @harry_qp And mortgages too! People have hundreds of thousands of pounds borrowed just to live somewhere and the celebration of reduced prices only impacts the owner. The mortgage doesn’t go down. So out of touch with reality IMO.
English

@harry_qp You make a fundamental mistake in conflating ownership of an expensive asset with ability to pay. A £1M house says nothing about someone's income, more about how long they have owned the house. An [extra] £1600 [is] a lot of money to someone on a modest pension.

@TonyL_01 @Jess_Warren_ ‘And partners’ presumably means they can flog it. Always ask for a fee!
English

@Jess_Warren_ Yes it is and you can use the video.
Hopefully no fatalities.

Hopes rise for post-Brexit scheme to let people aged 18 to 30 work in EU theguardian.com/world/2025/apr…
English

@ciarjayy What about the millions of us already over 30 who voted against it too?
English

@EreinsGaser @Mark_Browns They don’t. He’s just including things like sales tax which is charged on all goods anyway
English

@Mark_Browns As I understand, Trump says if the other countries will not tariff the US any longer then he will cut the new tariffs. Am I right? Why do the other countries have such high tariffs on the US? Please explain it to me. Please excuse my English I'm from Germany
English

It’s mad that Americans are happy that almost everything they buy is going up in price for them 20% tonight 😂

@GreatBritishB73 Well… frictionless trade is a massive one - the absence of which has damaged our economy massively. Free movement allowing us to live and work on the EU. Security co-operation. The UK right to veto. And many many more.
English

@GreatBritishB73 I think you’ve miscounted. Aside from the fact Brexit has cost more than we’ve ever put in, and continues to cost our economy dear (4% GDP) yes, maybe this is the first ‘benefit’

How dare @lisanandy suggest the UK has a shortage of skills in the creative industries - we have a WORK SHORTAGE. Thousands of skilled people have been forced to flee the film/TV industry last year with up to 70% of work drying up. Silence on that tho on @BBCr4today @bectu
English

Aside from vile choice of music (lyrics talk of sexually assaulting girls) - it’s great to see
@UKLabour
doing their bit for the UK creative sector by *checks notes* using AI to make their shitty videos.
@lisanandy
how’s this ‘protecting creators’

@leejdavies @fattmellows But what % LTV is that? Mines 1600/m for a 3 bed house in a nicer bit of Leiwsham but only because the LTV is like 40%. Not that a grand a month for that hole is justifiable
English

@fattmellows Mad thing is not too far away in SE6 my mortgage for a 3-bed is just over £100pcm more
Landlords are a disgrace. In general anyway.
