I agree with this.
For chavismo, cooperation with the US is imperative for survival, it remains to be seen if the strategy will work.
What also remains to be seen is the administration’s commitment to include the Venezuelan opposition in the current process.

In the coming days, I expect a significant purge within the Chavista regime. Many of the most openly anti-American figures are likely to be removed from the cabinet and replaced by officials prepared to work directly with Washington. We may see a wave of new faces very soon.

People keep asking why there are no Venezuelans in the streets celebrating Maduro’s capture. The answer is simple: the regime didn’t fall, it just changed faces. Chavismo without Maduro is still running the country. This is also a face-saving action for domestic consumption.

Alfredo Díaz, former governor of Nueva Esparta, one of many political prisoners in Venezuela, has died in custody. Has been imprisoned for a year in solitary confinement. The Venezuelan state is responsible for those in its custody.
His death is unacceptable.
