It’s NOT ‘The Joss Naylor Cairn’. It is in fact ‘The Queen Mother’s Cairn’ that the late Joss Naylor built to celebrate her 100th birthday #lakedistrict The recent revised Wainwright guides are WRONG! Other guides too. Joss would never have wanted a memorial to himself as I know and David reveals here in this clip from one of our walking programmes 🎥 Joss’ mark is all about Wasdale. From the greens where he patiently cleared invasive bracken so trees and shrubs could naturally grow and mature to stone seats and hardy long lasting walls about the dale. That’s his legacy outside of fellrunning and his incredible achievements. A humble man who cared passionately about nature, the land, people and that makes Cumbria. Much like Wainwright, he and others lesser known didn’t want a memorial built. Their work and legacy speaks more to millions of people who love this corner of England - unlike the “commercialism” who seek to ‘rape’ the place for monetary gain at the expense of local communities and heritage 😢💔 I count the national park authority and tourist board in that. Short-sighted, money driven ideologies with no care for nature, people and places 🤬💔😢

I’m completely flabbergasted! Thank you so much for choosing my book - it was a privilege to spend a year immersing myself in the beauty of the Lakes. Thank you to Dave Felton @ByLakeland for commissioning me to create it. And thank you to all who have bought it & loved it 🥰

These were never the success we thought they’d be, I genuinely thought people would celebrate climbing the 214 and this would be a suitable way to do just that, never mind

I’m so thrilled that my book ‘Sketching a Year in Lakeland’ has been shortlisted for the Latitude Press Prize for Illustration & Presentation. It’s an incredible honour - good luck to all the other shortlisted books, it’s a very diverse selection this year 😃

@ConistonStone Loads better than anything not from Cumbria and they are absolutely beautiful trophies. Who would not like one of these when you have done. The Bob Graham Round. Start and finish Moot Hall, Keswick. Wainwright 214 tops, all in Lake District. Keep it in county. Well done 👍

Sarah delivered the glass for another 214 trophy, it’s already sold to a fella who’s done the Bob Graham Round and the 214 and wants suitable trophies to remind him of these epic feats It’s got to be better than a Chinese medal, and only the price of a pair of walking boots.

@FellFoodie @BBC_Cumbria I did read that there was a couple of incidents on A66 besides the one that shut road at 1330. Very frustrating to be out on our crap road infrastructure once a main road is closed. Sat navigation never helps as it just send cars down quickest route. But you made it 👍

@riggingill @BBC_Cumbria Waithwaite, pretty much one way on a single track. Few cars trying to come West but they would of had no chance. Was fine once got through to Troutbeck so was able to get to Penrith via Pooley Bridge

@liziwake @michlichen Watch Countryfile. As if the area did not have enough traffic issues along come two giggling BBC presenters happy to be driving Hardknot and Wrynose passes. Good luck to farmers, rescue service and MRT as the traffic now increases.

@michlichen We have just said the same. They should be promoting travel by bus & train not encouraging more cars over already damaged roads. Irresponsible.

Jasmine Paris. Hosted by the Armitt Museum, Green Runners & Running In’t Fells exhibition. A run-up Loughrigg, a Q&A plus quiz. Jasmine answered questions about The Barkley Ultra Marathon admirably and honestly. What a woman 👏👏 @ShowcaseCumbria @ArmittMuseum @JasminKParis
