When you quit a job in Japan, your company has to give you a 離職票 (rishokuhyou) — an official “certificate of separation from employment.”
You need this for:
• Applying for unemployment benefits at Hello Work (ハローワーク)
• Proving your work history to your next employer
• Getting your pension/insurance sorted
The company sends it to you by mail about 2 weeks after your last day. If they don’t, you can legally demand it.
It lists your employment period, salary, reason for leaving, everything official.
Japan loves documentation. There’s a specific form for literally every life event.
Keep it safe — you’ll need it.
