Fine tuning your compass is a waste of time if your map is upside down. Get the big stuff right. The small stuff is fun, too, but it’s not nearly as scientific as some folks might have you believe.

@unusual_whales Andes virus, the strain involved in a recent cruise ship outbreak, is the only hantavirus confirmed to spread from person to person, typically through very close, prolonged contact such as sharing a cabin, caring for a sick person, or direct exposure to bodily fluids.

@karkha @triggerpod Although there is no hard definition for critical thinking (CT). WS certainly displays most agreed upon structures of CT. That is he judges the quality of evidence, arguments, and logic and attempts to set aside personal biases.

@triggerpod If you're asking Warren Smith to do critical thinking you've lost the way right at the beginning.

"Microaggressions… don’t require evidence because it’s subconscious." Warren Smith explains how a student who “doesn’t show up to class” and “doesn’t do any assignments” suddenly couldn’t be held accountable after accusations of racism. “Why is it that one of the most progressive left-wing schools in the country is suddenly racist or white supremacist? It just doesn’t make any sense.” Watch this clip.

@JEShannon3 @triggerpod "Perceived harm and demonstrable harm aren’t the same thing" True but throw a few bs measures in and they change perceived into demonstrated.

Perceived harm and demonstrable harm aren’t the same thing. One is “I experienced this negatively.” The other is “here’s the measurable consequence.” A system stops functioning fairly once it treats subjective interpretation as self-validating evidence. That drift usually looks like: perception → presumption → immunity from scrutiny At that point, some claims no longer have to prove themselves before consequences are applied.

@triggerpod "Microaggressions dont require evidence" The IAT, co-created by Banaji and Greenwald, is widely criticized for having poor test-retest reliability and low replicability, meaning it often yields inconsistent results when administered to the same individual multiple time

@FoodProfessor If true about the 4B a year shortfall so far, expect a 2.7 B plus windfall when the people stop taking ozempic or tirzepatide as the weight piles back on...

Here is my best guess at @ericnuttall's Chart he just posted... "We believe that the average North American oil producer is discounting ~$70WTI, while the new floor price for WTI is $80 with meaningful further upside in the years ahead"

@ThomasSowell How does anyone, in this day and age, believe most govt policies are for the good of the people, instead of the section or totality of the govt that is implementing these policies?

🚨🇨🇦 34% of Canadians are now taking out loans just to eat. 🍞 Meanwhile, @MarkJCarney claims affordability is at a 10-year high. The math isn’t mathing, but the hunger is real. This is absolutely shameful. 🇨🇦 Repost this and 🏷️ @MarkJCarney #Canada #Cdnpoli

@sarobertsonca 🤨 I want to see an effective and thoughtful opposition to the Carney Liberals, a party that uses facts effectively to critique government policies and keep them honest. We really need that. But this is not that.
