@Arakunrin_emma @enyinna_ taking care of your face/feet via a skin routine will have nigerian men question your masculine identity. meanwhile you only get one body in this lifetime. niggas be walking around wrinkled & ashy to maintain a “masculine” look smfh. some norms are absolutely worth questioning.

@enyinna_ There is some bizarre stuff some men do and claim you are being feminine for correcting such. This is common in terms of physical health and hygiene.

@jxsephabalokwu @flygodT he may have had it but for the most part it wasn’t publicly displayed at the time. only after graduation/808s he started leaning into it publicly.

Watching creatives try to force the Kanye “god complex” personality with nothing to show for it yet is just funny, that man was 4 classic albums deep before he started doing that.

Someone will come tomorrow and ask why young Nigerians are staying away from churches. Young Nigerians grew up reading about Moses, Elijah and even Jesus Christ taking a stand against corrupt and oppressive leadership while Nigerian pastors are either platforming corrupt leaders, subtly supporting them or just ignoring everything being done to their members by them.

@interro_9 no, this is good actually. much needed proof that achieving things in tech doesn’t always extend to smarts in other areas of life. Doctors are often dumb in a similar way outside of medicine even though society disproportionately awards them so much reverence.

"but im a white guy working on ai" you can only fucking lol at something so incomprehensibly ignorant and out of touch let me get this straight– you were born and raised in quebec, and had the good fortune to study at mcgill - literally one of the world's best universities - for less than $5000 a year. then you did graduate studies at waterloo - canada's top school for computer science, and earned a masters in maths and a phd there. you then went on to move to America, work for Google, and later started your own ai company. and the narrative you want to weave around your upbringing and training is that you ESCAPED canadian socialism? so the socialism was good enough for you to grow up safe, have healthcare, receive a literal world-class education that helped you into one of the top technology firms in the world, but is also so bad that america has a moral imperative to ensure you, a technologist working there, should be granted permanent residency. and if your lack of gratitude for your upbringing wasnt enough, you were promoting a presidential candidate who was vehemently opposed to immigration – while you, an immigrant, were staying in their country with a temporary visa. i guess you can be smart enough to work on ai and quantum computing but still be dumb enough to not only think these things, but actually post them on twitter expecting sympathy

Feeling robbed of my path to citizenship right now after grinding a PhD and contributing to foundational AI + computing technologies for the United States for the past ~ 10 years. Feels like robbing top and technologists like me of the opportunity to achieve the American Dream.

@solodave2004 @ahrtmad @aj_lemi you don’t need industries for that. half the trucks on lagos roads are emitting black smoke. has been the case for as long as i’ve been alive. this is very clear whenever you’re landing at MMA during the daytime.

@Efenovg @yinkanubi man i hate this narrative. Nigeria has always had access to some of the most brilliant people within the country and outside but rejects them because the system as it is has no use for them. Until that system changes, you can ship every Nigerian back and nothing will change.

Let me get this straight, you want people who are on H-1B visas who are working and contributing to your economy (not to mention paying their taxes) to quit work and return back to their home countries for an unspecified period to apply for Green Card? Wonderful!
Homeland Security@DHSgov

An alien who is in the U.S. temporarily and wants a Green Card must return to their home country to apply. This policy allows our immigration system to function as the law intended instead of incentivizing loopholes. The era of abusing our nation’s immigration system is over.

Views is straight ass compared to Iceman. Ultimately Views had always been overrated to me even before Iceman came out. I don’t understand the hype.

@dmcb__ mmm idk. I think we should stop comparing his new albums to Take Care and NWTS. Those are bonafide classics and in categories of their own. I do think though that Iceman is up their with Views, Scorpion, etc.

When I advocate for seed sovereignty in Kenya, this example from Nigeria illustrates it perfectly. Communities must always control, breed, share, sell and exchange their indigenous seeds. Indigenous seeds have been tested and tried through generations and our climate.
Slim@onu_slim

Let me tell you how it happened. Nigeria’s ginger export hit zero from N26 billion within 3 years. The official story blames fungal blight. But here is what actually happened. When Nigerian farmers lost their indigenous seed supply, grant-aided interventions arrived with replacement seeds. An associate professor at Lagos Business School flagged publicly that some of those interventions involved GMO organisms that weakened indigenous crops and compromised soil health. That is not a conspiracy theory because it is a documented academic concern. Now that Nigeria spoke got destroyed by the GMO seedlings….what is not the result? Nigeria was forced to import ginger from China to fill domestic demand. Chinese ginger has none of the pungency, oleoresin content, or quality that made Nigerian ginger a global premium product. And the ginger now sitting in Nigerian markets tastes like wood because it essentially is wood. The two indigenous varieties that built Nigeria’s global ginger reputation, the Tafin Giwa and Yatsun Biri, had decades of soil relationship and quality built into them. Once the soil was degraded and those seed varieties were displaced, the product that returned was a pale imitation. Nigeria did not just lose a market. It lost a seed. And without a National Ginger Seed Bank, which nobody has built, it may never fully get it back.
