Our latest article: most of our clavulanate and cefovecin use in Aus dogs + cats is simply not justified by the microbiology. Vets, it’s time to bring back the old-school antibiotics that still work really well - amoxicillin and TMS. sciquest.org.nz/browse/publica… @UniMelb @NCAS_Aus

We have some Voice data coming this weekend. A lot of nuanced insights. But after several months of polling. There are 3 groups of Australians who are going to vote Yes. These 3 groups will cause major pain for the LNP in 2025 - because of the position they have taken at a leadership level. Under 35s University educated Speak another language at home - especially Indian Australians. The following federal seats should be a Yes on the 14th October and a NO for the LNP in 2025. Bennelong North Sydney Wentworth Kooyong Curtin Brisbane Higgins Interesting side issue. All voted Yes at the Republic Referendum and it’s especially interesting for two of these seats. Brisbane and Curtin, the only seats that voted Yes in their respective states in 1999. Like the Republic Referendum, age, education and diversity will again be a feature. *on diversity. There are differences between Sydney and Melbourne. Sydney’s diverse electorates are a lot more conservative. Although at general elections vote Labor.

@risca_AMS Fabulous presentation. If you're keen to do a seminar on qualitative surveys, norms and all that stuff we'd love to hear it!

Seemingly irrational decisions make more sense when we understand the very real emotions that underpin them. My latest paper explains the fears that drive veterinarians to prescribe antibiotics in the absence of a clear indication: mdpi.com/2079-6382/12/3…

@NCAS_Aus @ESCMID @UniMelb Anna and I were both very happy to be at ICOHAR. It is a small, high-quality ECCMID-adjacent conference (every 4 years) focused on OneHealth AMR issues. Highly recommend for those attending ECCMID 2027!

Prof Kas Thursky *just* visible here, opening the @NCAS_Aus symposium for World Antimicrobial Awareness Week #WAAW2022 #AAW22. It’s great to see so many champions of animal and human antimicrobial stewardship, both in the room and online. Let’s tackle some wicked problems!

Vets at UniMelb are tackling antimicrobial resistance. Hear from me and colleagues about a huge vet AMS trial, simple changes microbiology labs can make to promote AMS & effective ways to talk to pet owners about responsible antibiotic use & more. #aaw2021 ncas-australia.org/AAW2021

@VicGovDH Some huge numbers of COVID tests performed in Victoria throughout the pandemic, but especially recently. Huge thanks to the laboratory staff and collection centre staff who are clearly *working their backsides off* to get it all done. Legends!

Great news: most dog and cat urinary isolates in Australia are susceptible to guideline-recommended amoxicillin and TMS. Not so great news: Australian vets are almost never choosing those antibiotics to treat dogs and cats. We can do better. protect-au.mimecast.com/s/CW7xCWLJMvF5…
