Our latest article: most of our clavulanate and cefovecin use in Aus dogs + cats is simply not justified by the microbiology. Vets, it’s time to bring back the old-school antibiotics that still work really well - amoxicillin and TMS. sciquest.org.nz/browse/publica… @UniMelb @NCAS_Aus

@chrisnoonan54 @KosSamaras @chrisnoonan54 clearly it hasn’t occurred to you that there are people out there who vote for reasons *other* than self-interest. That’s quite telling.

@KosSamaras University educated hmm yes the spitters
Another language yep easier to fool
The well healed definitely because they virtue signal because they actually think this will have no effect on their lives so why not

We have some Voice data coming this weekend. A lot of nuanced insights.
But after several months of polling. There are 3 groups of Australians who are going to vote Yes. These 3 groups will cause major pain for the LNP in 2025 - because of the position they have taken at a leadership level.
Under 35s
University educated
Speak another language at home - especially Indian Australians.
The following federal seats should be a Yes on the 14th October and a NO for the LNP in 2025.
Bennelong
North Sydney
Wentworth
Kooyong
Curtin
Brisbane
Higgins
Interesting side issue. All voted Yes at the Republic Referendum and it’s especially interesting for two of these seats. Brisbane and Curtin, the only seats that voted Yes in their respective states in 1999.
Like the Republic Referendum, age, education and diversity will again be a feature.
*on diversity. There are differences between Sydney and Melbourne. Sydney’s diverse electorates are a lot more conservative. Although at general elections vote Labor.

@risca_AMS Fabulous presentation. If you're keen to do a seminar on qualitative surveys, norms and all that stuff we'd love to hear it!

Hot off the press: more insights from our team’s veterinary antibiotic stewardship trial in 135 small animal clinics. Big congrats to first author Suzanna Richards! bvajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.10… @ApcahUnimelb @NCAS_Aus @UniMelb

Seemingly irrational decisions make more sense when we understand the very real emotions that underpin them. My latest paper explains the fears that drive veterinarians to prescribe antibiotics in the absence of a clear indication: mdpi.com/2079-6382/12/3…

For Australian veterinarians who are looking for simple ways to improve their day-to-day antibiotic choices, here’s a chat I had recently with the lovely (and funny) guys from The Vet Vault! @vet_vault @ApcahUnimelb @NCAS_Aus #veterinarymedicine anchor.fm/vet-vault/epis…

Vets at UniMelb are tackling antimicrobial resistance. Hear from me and colleagues about a huge vet AMS trial, simple changes microbiology labs can make to promote AMS & effective ways to talk to pet owners about responsible antibiotic use & more. #aaw2021 ncas-australia.org/AAW2021

@NCAS_Aus @JRGilkerson @LauraHardefeldt @FVASunimelb @ApcahUnimelb Thank you to @NCAS_Aus for organising these seminars so that we can all learn from each other. There is so much to be gained by working together across multiple sectors on this OneHealth problem of AMR.

@JRGilkerson @LauraHardefeldt @risca_AMS @FVASunimelb @ApcahUnimelb They are fabulous! For all you human AMS people - it is well worth watching these presentations and hearing about the novel and innovative work that our NCAS vet fellows are doing.

@VicGovDH Some huge numbers of COVID tests performed in Victoria throughout the pandemic, but especially recently. Huge thanks to the laboratory staff and collection centre staff who are clearly *working their backsides off* to get it all done. Legends!

Thank you for getting tested Victoria. Keep it up.
If you have COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, get tested and stay home.

@NCAS_Aus @ApcahUnimelb @FVASunimelb @MDPIOpenAccess @TheDohertyInst @VicGovAg @CIDRAP_ASP @GlennFBrowning @LauraHardefeldt Thanks, Arjun. We were encouraged by the relatively high susceptibility results from these companion animal isolates. But that's no reason for complacency; veterinary antibiotic prescribing definitely can (and should be) improved. AMS is a OneHealth team effort!

New from NCAS @risca_AMS @ApcahUnimelb @FVASunimelb: Use of Local Antibiogram Data and Antimicrobial Importance Ratings to Select Optimal Empirical Therapies for Urinary Tract Infections in Dogs and Cats mdpi.com/929670 via @MDPIOpenAccess

English

Great news: most dog and cat urinary isolates in Australia are susceptible to guideline-recommended amoxicillin and TMS. Not so great news: Australian vets are almost never choosing those antibiotics to treat dogs and cats. We can do better.
