Ira Hayes helped raise the most famous flag in American military history in 1945. The image made him a national symbol. The country quietly forgot the man. He was born in 1923 on the Gila River Indian Reservation in Arizona. A quiet Pima Native American who grew up in poverty, working fields with his family. When World War Il began, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He was 19. February 23, 1945. Iwo Jima. The island was a volcanic fortress filled with Japanese tunnels and bunkers. Marines fought through gunfire, grenades, and hidden defenders across black sand beaches. Six Marines climbed Mount Suribachi carrying a second, larger American flag. One of them was Ira Hayes. They planted the flag at the summit. A photographer captured the moment. The photograph became one of the most famous images in world history. America celebrated the image everywhere. Hayes was suddenly a national hero. But the attention crushed him. The battle had haunted him. Friends he fought beside were gone. The fame only reminded him. When he returned home to Arizona, life became even harder. Hayes struggled with severe trauma and alcoholism. In nearby towns, some bars refused to serve him because he was Native American. The Marine in the most famous photograph of World War II could not drink in some American bars. On January 24, 1955, Ira Hayes was found dead near his home. He had frozen to death in the desert cold. I ask you, out of sheer consensus, are we there yet?

Congress isn’t a functioning branch of government anymore. It’s a corrupted, rotting ruin. A once sacred marble monument now crumbling under its own greed. It can’t pass real laws, can’t pass an honest budget, can’t steer foreign policy, can’t stop its shameful binge spending and stealing, can’t secure our borders and can’t even fucking protect the integrity of our elections. The very idea of a standing legislature hasn’t just failed us, darlings, It has completely collapsed, like a once powerful empire choking on its own arrogance and lies in its final, ugly hour. This is a total, soul crushing, civilization level breakdown… Every single one of us should be fucking furious about it!
