This Hindu woman underwent five Nikah and three Halala just because she fell for a man named 'Naveen' on a social media who turned out to be Naveed. The shocking part is who did what? 1. She was raped by a Maulana (cleric, religious preacher) named Abdur Rehman. 2. It was in a madrasa, a so-called place of study, where her Halala happened. 3. She was trapped by Maulana Kaari Asman, taken to Shaheen Bagh madrasa, and her Halala was performed there. 4. Khalid married her after the Halala but instantly gave her triple Talaq. Later, he wanted to keep her as his wife, so she had to undergo Halala again. 5. This was done by Khalid’s brother Sakib and his brother-in-law Fakhruddin. 6. She was gang-raped before getting married to Khalid again. So, this woman was raped by a cleric, then in the name of Halala another cleric raped her. She was raped inside a madrasa. She was abused by relatives like brothers-in-law. If you are not cautious on social media, you may fall for a similar trap. In a first, two judges themselves make a visit to Mumbai’s Kanjurmarg landfill. Justices Girish Kulkarni & Aarti Sathe visited the place on Saturday evening. During the 2-hour surprise visit the judges, who are hearing a petition filed by Kannamwar Nagar residents highlighting concerns over rising pollution at the ground, were given a presentation on the processes adopted, including recycling, and other uses derived from waste. Over a fortnight after two judges inspected the Kanjurmarg landfill site, BMC chief Ashwini Bhide inspected it with a team of officials early today. The visit comes amidst recurring complaints from residents living around it regarding a foul smell continuing to come out of the space. The landfill is spread across 118.14 hectares (approximately 292 acres)& handles over 6,000 MT of municipal solid waste.

The Pivot But let's take this argument one level deeper. The same government that says it cannot afford to cut capital gains tax — Is already spending that exact amount every single year. Just not on the economy. On elections.

The Volume Multiplier The revenue loss calculation above also assumes static market volumes. That assumption is almost certainly wrong. STT collections in FY24-25 grew 65% year-on-year — driven entirely by volume growth, with zero rate change. Lower taxes → higher participation → significantly higher volumes. Higher volumes → more broking revenue, GST, exchange fees, depository income, new listings. The tax base broadens. The “loss” partially self-corrects. This is the Laffer Curve applied to capital markets.

The Opportunity If India becomes the most tax-efficient large equity market in the world: Conservative FII inflow estimate = $50 Billion/year Optimistic scenario = $100 Billion/year The math: ✅ Revenue foregone = $15 Billion ✅ USD inflow generated = $50–100 Billion ✅ Net USD improvement = $35–85 Billion The problem we are trying to solve is a $84 Billion CAD. One policy decision. Structural impact.

The Cost to Government The honest counter-argument first. Estimated direct revenue impact: 📉 STCG reduction (50% cut) = ~₹22,000 crore loss 📉 LTCG removal = ~₹55,000 crore loss 📉 STT abolition = ~₹53,000 crore loss Total estimated revenue foregone = ₹1.30 lakh crore ($15 Billion/year) This is real money. It deserves serious acknowledgement. Now let’s look at the other side of the equation.

The Proposal Three targeted policy changes: → STCG: 20% → 10% → LTCG: 12.5% → 0% → STT: Abolished That’s it. No new scheme. No new institution. Just remove the friction that is keeping global capital away.

The Real Lever Foreign Institutional Investors allocate capital globally based on one primary filter: Risk-adjusted, post-tax returns. India’s current equity tax structure: 📌 STCG = 20% 📌 LTCG = 12.5% 📌 STT = Applicable on every transaction Relative to Singapore, Hong Kong, and UAE — India is among the most expensive large equity markets to operate in, on a post-tax basis. We are pricing out the very capital we need.

Where Dollars Are Going The three largest contributors to India’s dollar outflow: 🛢️ Crude oil imports — $123 Billion/year 🪙 Gold imports — $72 Billion/year ✈️ Outbound travel spend — $31.7 Billion/year Combined = ~$227 Billion leaving India annually. Controlling consumption addresses the symptom. We need to address the cause.

Let’s establish the scale of the challenge first. India’s Current Account Deficit = $84 Billion in 2026. This means more dollars are leaving India than entering. A widening CAD weakens the INR. A weaker INR makes imports more expensive. More expensive imports widen the CAD further. This is not a spending problem. This is a structural dollar outflow problem.
