@aidenybai It’s the same as a cafe spending money to make their seating inviting. The more time people spend in the cafe (internet), the more coffee they buy (ad clicks). It’s win-win-win: users have a better experience, companies get more impressions, Google gets more revenue.

@resisfertile @c0nting3nc3 A healthy male in his vigorous years doesn’t need a rest day for 100 push ups. 100 push ups would be a half decent warm up to my actual workouts.

@c0nting3nc3 One reason I disagree here is 1. you will need at least 1-2 rest days per week 2. assumes no sickness, injury, or other interruptions 3. Vast majority of people can't even start at 10 pushups The above only holds up with a lot of very rosy assumptions.

how someone answers this is a helpful rubric for deciding should you pay any attention to any of their views. Do they display first level, second level, or third level thinking?

@CaptainLoser89 @joewallin False again. Social government spending gives very low return on investment. The 5:1 figure is overstated and getting positive returns at all is dependent on how well funds are managed. Do you consider $500mm per mile to be good management?

@rishijaguar @joewallin Most social government spending stimulates the economy. Government spending is essential to maximizing growth. One example being that for every dollar put into public transit, the local economy has a five dollar return because of the economic opportunities and jobs it creates.

@rishijaguar @joewallin The most developed nations all have progressive tax systems, including the US with its federal income tax. It has not once meaningfully harmed productivity or innovation.

@CaptainLoser89 @joewallin Income taxes slow growth because they penalize activities that drive expansion like working and investing. You will earn less in the long run when growth slows. The fairness of sales taxes can be smoothed out with rebates and credits. These are well established ideas.

@joewallin Its always been the goal for an income tax to replace the high sales tax. Sales taxes are extremely regressive and disproportionately affect poor families. An income tax is far more fair and equitable for everybody.

@micsolana If responses are secret then I have to press blue because I know I have family who will press blue due to their faith in humanity and I can’t leave them hanging.

fwiw, and this is embarrassing but I'm going to admit it, my instinct was blue, and I pressed blue. then I thought about it for a moment and the answer was clearly red. I can't make a rational case for blue, but understand where blues are coming from (they are wrong).
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@rishijaguar I don’t think every parent needs this. But I remember how quickly the days blurred together and how often we were reconstructing basic info from memory. Tottli is for that moment: less guessing, easier handoffs, calmer care

For the past two months, my wife and I have been tracking every feed, pump, and diaper for our newborn son with an app we've been building. Today, we're ready to share it with you. Meet Tottli. Baby care, beautifully simple. Now live in the App Store! tottli.com

@0x49fa98 This is why I don’t poast. You can never be sure that you’re truly anonymous. If you become public you have to bear the weight on your shoulders and you either cower or hold strong—and likely get crushed like JP.

@KaiaParker7 @mrsdobbins_ And plenty of married women have relationships with their own friends too, but their favorite relationship is with who they married.

@KaiaParker7 @mrsdobbins_ People in deep relationships prefer each other’s company above anyone else and that’s normal. Once you have kids you need each other more than anyone else, and you don’t have time for anyone else either.

@altprdx @marketplunger1 Irrelevant. The institutions you used to invest in weapons of war won’t exist in the First Turning. The First Turning shuns the institutions of the Fourth Turning absolutely. That’s the fundamental point of the Turning.

@alphaman_111 @charlesmurray This is exactly why they struggle to complete the homework. Their ancestors had supreme responsibility (purpose) at their age and now all they’re called upon to do is read a few books and fill out a piece of paper. Understandable why they’re tuning out.

On day 1 of my high school history class, our professor got up and said You are 15 or 16 years old. 200 years ago people your age were married, planted crops, had children, and built a cabin by winter. You can do your homework. The bar set for you historically is embarrassingly low. You are not dealing with regional famine or plague. You do not have to save your family from marauders or go into battle to destroy your enemies. You have to sit down and learn from someone who cares about you in a safe, air-conditioned room. You have no excuses.
