Corbin Middlemas has reported on ABC Sport that Wildcard Weekend could be up for sale as early as the 2027 season. This year, the teams finishing 7th and 8th will host the Wildcard fixtures, but from next season, hosting rights could go to the highest bidder. The AFL says it will reassess the model at the end of the year. @CorbinMiddlemas reports that preliminary conversations have already taken place between the AFL and the WA government about the concept. Comparing 2025 statistics to this year (note only 4 rounds of data) we have seen the following changes: Stocks up 📈 Total Scoring (179 vs 165) +8% Uncontested Marks (172 vs 158) +8% Uncontested Possesions (460 vs 432) +6% Meters Gained (12.2km vs 11.7km) +4% Stocks down 📉 Contested Marks (16.1 vs 18.7) -14% Ruck Contests (88 vs 98) -10% Tackles (110 vs 120) -9% It is very clear that the game has opened up and become more uncontested which has led to a faster paced game. This clearly suits those players who have explosive outside running capabilities. #AFLstats #AFLFantasy #AFLSupercoach
