RE: FORMAL DEMAND TO CEASE MISREPRESENTATION, DEFAMATORY CARTOONING, AND FALSE POLITICAL ASSOCIATION
I write in my capacity as the President of the Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats (LEAD) and as an independent political leader in Zimbabwe.
It has come to my attention that ZimDaily has, on multiple occasions, published cartoons depicting me wearing a ZANU-PF scarf or being visually associated with ZANU-PF. This is a false, misleading, and malicious portrayal that grossly misrepresents my political identity, my values, and my ideological position.
Let me state unequivocally:
I am not a member of ZANU-PF, I do not have any political relationship with ZANU-PF, and I do not advance ZANU-PF interests. I am the leader of my own political party, LEAD, which is ideologically distinct, independent, and openly critical of governance failures, corruption, and authoritarianism.
Your repeated cartooning of me with ZANU-PF regalia constitutes:
▪︎ Deliberate political misrepresentation
▪︎ Defamation by implication
▪︎ Agenda-setting intended to undermine my credibility
▪︎ An attempt to confuse the public about my political stance
Cartoons are not neutral art; they are powerful editorial instruments. When used irresponsibly, they become tools of propaganda and character assassination.
Your conduct creates the false impression that I am aligned with or sponsored by ZANU-PF, which directly harms my political reputation, leadership legitimacy, and standing with supporters, partners, and the broader public.
I hereby formally demand that ZimDaily:
1. Immediately cease depicting me with ZANU-PF symbols, colours, or regalia.
2. Refrain from publishing any material that falsely associates me with ZANU-PF.
3. Issue a corrective clarification acknowledging that Linda Tsungirirai Masarira is an independent political leader and President of LEAD with no affiliation to ZANU-PF.
Be advised that should this misrepresentation continue, I will have no hesitation in pursuing legal remedies, including but not limited to:
▪︎ A defamation claim
▪︎ A formal complaint to relevant media regulatory bodies
▪︎ Civil litigation for reputational harm
This letter serves as formal notice.
I reserve all my rights.
Yours sincerely,
Linda Tsungirirai Masarira
President – Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats (LEAD)
NB I have no intentions of joining whatever Chamisa is onto with his dancing moves on his new dance floor.
