When preaching is abandoned in the church, the church dies out. When the church dies out, western civilization dies out.

@irishpresby The PCA did not disavow or suspend Greg Johnson who identified as a gay Christian. Yet Zachary Garris is suspended for unwholesome words. Make it make sense.

At trial, the Rio Grande Presbytery (PCA) found Rev. Zachary Garris NOT GUILTY of Charge 1 regarding his comments on slavery from June 2024. However, Garris was found GUILTY of Charge 2 for “unwholesome speech” per Ephesians 4:29, based on a 2023 interaction on X with Anthony Bradley. The Presbytery has indefinitely suspended him.

I’m not exposing anything. All I said was that a proper definition needs to be given, it needs to be demonstrated from Scripture that the definition is correct, and it needs to he demonstrated that a man has committed said sin. All I’ve espoused is the normal duties of the church court. You are the one who said demonstrating the sin of a man is a white-nationalist tactic.

@rkiser07 @cfb_ultimate @elimcgowan No, I think publishing and continuing to profit from one of the most notorious open kinists, himself a sponsor of multiple excommunicated kinist pastors, is a sin that needs no explanation. I think you’re exposing yourself. A normal person would have backed down by now.

As friends of Rev. Garris are pointing out, his PCA Presbytery is having his ecclesiastical trial on Wednesday. Rev. Garris had a formal call for discipline come from about a hundred elders around the country during the summer of 2024 after he defended chattel slavery (which he later apologized for), and was found to have liked many racist memes and statements like one that said racism was not a moral failing.

@cfb_ultimate @rkiser07 @elimcgowan “Demonstrate how he sinned,” is an argumentative tactic commonly taught in white-nationalist group chats. There are so many tells here, from someone who follows much of the AmRef set.

@blakecallens @elimcgowan I’m well aware of the many ways these terms are used. That’s not the point. The point is since there are many ways terms are used, sometimes correctly and other times incorrectly, the accuser must define the way he is using it.

Absolutely. I suspect that if you were accused of something, you’d want your accuser to define the term in the way he is using it, demonstrate how its a sin, then demonstrate how you’ve sinned in that area. We live in a society that calls people who advocate against open borders as racist. Do you accept that use of the term? Why would you not want accusations properly defined?

@rkiser07 @elimcgowan He needs to define a term for a belief set that’s so much at the forefront of Presbyterian discourse that multiple NAPARC denominations have anathematized it?

Deism, Unitarianism and Transcendentalism destroyed the northern states who later destroyed the southern states. Testing a form of government by its success or failure over time doesn’t necessarily mean it’s good or bad. The Roman Empire, which was pagan and syncretistic, worked for centuries before the Edict of Milan. Yet I don’t want to live in a pagan and syncretic society. But it’s the very type of society for which many Christians advocate.

“but Puritan New England failed!” if “this polity has never failed” is your standard, then you’ll place all your political hopes in the current regime b/c the current regime is the only one that hasn’t failed yet (by definition)

@elimcgowan If you’re going to post about the situation, you need to define these terms and demonstrate how he has sinned.

@james_d_baird There is a false notion that government officials can be neutral in their governing. If they don’t promote true religion, they will promote false religion. They never promote irreligion.

my critics resort to this argument: “if you say gov must promote true religion, then gov will promote false religion, so tell gov to promote no religion” which reminds me of the pragmatic “give your teenagers condoms” and the policy of “ensure the homeless use clean needles”

I don’t think the current seminary model is sustainable for anyone. From an economic perspective, the price of seminaries are rapidly increasing. From a theological perspective, it’s incredibly difficult to curb the liberal drift which is adopted by professors, taught to students, the preached to congregations. This isn’t true of all seminaries, of course, but historically this is a consistent issue with the seminary model.

@bobcrane77 @the_jame @matt_everhard $450 for a certificate and a copy of the certificate? A marriage license is under $100 and a death certificate is $15. What is the significance of the certificate that warrants $450?

The point is that the Philistines trusted in their own might and power. David trusted in the power of the Lord. Yet David did not put his sling down. He used it knowing God would be faithful and uphold the righteous. Then he used Goliath’s sword to remove his head. While it is true that we are in a spiritual battle, there are occasions where swords and spears are needed.

David to Goliath: “You come to me with a sword and with a spear, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied . . . that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear.” 1 Samuel 17:45–47 The weapons of our warfare are not of this world.

An "inappropriate relationship" is when your barber gives you legal advice or your lawyer sells you insurance. This sounds more serious than that. We need to start speaking truth and stop using euphemisms if we are ever going to confront sexual sin. @TGC
