Three letters. ABD. Yesterday, I completed my final coursework at Baylor University, officially reaching ABD — All But Dissertation. As I reflect on this journey, the phrase “It’s a marathon, not a sprint” has never felt more true. This road has been filled with unforgettable moments—from my wife going into labor at 4:00 a.m. while I was in Waco for class and racing back down I-35 just in time to welcome my son into the world, to working a 15-hour day as an administrator at a Friday night football game before getting back on the road for another weekend of classes. Those moments, along with countless early mornings, late nights, and the unwavering support of my family, shaped more than my doctoral journey, they shaped me. Somewhere along the way, a mantra was born: #TheMarathon2027. What started as a reminder became a mindset. I learned that earning a doctorate isn’t about how fast you move, it’s about staying faithful to the process, one mile at a time. Now, the finish line is in sight. Next stop: Dissertation defense. Hawaii was a blast! Grateful for the opportunity to explore an amazing place while still staying on track with my training. From running the hills of Hāna to kayaking in Wailea, it was the perfect balance of adventure, training, and making memories with family. @STUMPS03
