"Every day digital design leaders around the world wrestle with software, which at its core is twenty years old and incapable of the potential of multi-core computing and graphics power designed to process within today's real and virtual workstations" - the state of CAD :(

@Ben_Reinhardt I never learned more about how to tape and which tape to use than when I worked at an aviation startup

Apparently it's speed tape en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_tape (Which feels like it should be in a skit about someone putting tape racing stripes on a car or wrapping themselves in it before a race)

The wing of the airplane I'm on has several patches of tape, which is vaguely terrifying but at the same time kind of awesome.

"Knowing" with Nicolas Cage is a terrible movie, but it's worth watching for the scene where he flashes his MIT badge like he's an FBI agent and it just reads: "ACADEMIC"

This proves the point. Antigen tests in Germany are US$0.88 each. Here in US, Binax (the one vendor allowed to sell at $12 in entire country) is out of inventory. No one else approved. Our HC system is completely “captured.” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulator…
David Peck@overseasdem

@bgurley Prices for AG tests in Germany dropped to €.75 each at the supermarket Lidl. It’s fast, easy — and cheap to test every day. #HealthForAll

And of course, behind all the detailed scientific analysis a simple message rings loud and clear: it's real, it's us, experts agree, it's bad, but there is still time to do something about it. Our climate future is, ultimately, up to us to decide. ipcc.ch/assessment-rep… 27/

Sometime next month, for the first time, the government is likely to declare a water shortage at Lake Mead. Arizona and its farmers will get hit first, but the water crisis will touch everyone. Inside the Southwest’s two-decade mega-drought. bloomberg.com/graphics/2021-…

I really wanted to write about something important: do we actually know how to recognise if a fossil fuel company is actually transforming? So, I dove into an obvious example, from my current home, Norway: Equinor. Want to pull on this 🧵with me? medium.com/lobbywatch/the…

Biden wants to decarbonize the U.S. economy by 2050. My 401k assumes I’ll retire six years later. Ambitious goals have turned reaching net zero into the work of a lifetime—*my generation’s lifetime,* people born from 1980 to 2005. I wrote about it: theatlantic.com/science/archiv…

6/Geothermal capacity in California today is effectively ~2000MW, but the state has the resource to produce over 15,000MW, and potentially far more than that with new technology, as @Sammy_Roth covers here. latimes.com/environment/st…
