I can't tell how thrilled I am about this release. It took more than 7 years, and I really was so close to sunset Jolokia before the fine folks from @RedHat picked it up again. So relieved that we got over my Duke-Nukem-forever moment from 2016 :-) #t=1469s" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">vimeo.com/181896821#t=14…

@maxandersen @Kiview @elonmusk Since Tweetdeck is only available with subscription (which I won't pay for various reasons), search on Twitter has also lost quite some value for me. But I agree, that searching on Mastodon is not good because its not global.

@ro14nd @Kiview @elonmusk My issue is that the way I use social media is I search for keywords on topics to see what’s happening - mastodon don’t honor that well. Unless users added a hashtag for it. Hence you must spend what feels like ungodly time to follow people to build a bubble.

Another thing I did on roadtrip was to listen to the full @elonmusk interview at youtube.com/watch?v=2BfMuH… Quite interesting listen and made me actually subscribe to x.com to see what it is all about - its community notes is unique and makes it for me the currently most useful and transparent social media. Which other social media have ads with "this is false" or linked posts with "generally correct but missing this aspect" kind of info ?

@Kiview @maxandersen @elonmusk I'm not super active on social media, but I feel home on Mastodon. Also because of its friendly atmosphere and no ads. Feels a bit like Usenet in the early days. For AI and Java related content I'm still following key players on Twitter, read-only mode though.

@ro14nd @maxandersen @elonmusk Which network are you mainly using now @ro14nd? Bluesky has zero activity for me, by Mastodon has been very active (and useful) for me in certain niches. Not so much for the Java community, for German Linux/FLOSS community (CCC) and also good for Python and such.

@maxandersen @elonmusk Mastodon is not bad, Elk is an excellent client (better than Twitter's IMO) and I had never issues with Hachyderm.io as Mastodon host (the good thing, you have the choice). So, yes, for me Mastodon is the better alternative. 'Have more to say, but running out of chars.

What are the good alternatives ? Mastodon is a ghost town, with bad clients, and on which I actually get censored. First social network ever that happened :) LinkedIn is decent for "professional" stuff but somewhat boring. For me the community notes is great on non-ad posts too.
