Look what's arrived! The very first copies of WEIMAR - LIFE ON THE EDGE OF CATASTROPHE! I have to say, the maps and the cover look fantastic. Allen Lane really make beautiful books. WEIMAR is available for pre-order now and will be out on 7 May 📚

They removed CD/DVD drives from devices. They made physical media harder to buy and use. They removed expandable storage from phones. They pushed us into streaming subscriptions. They made always-online normal. They made unlimited internet necessary. Then slowly raised the price of everything. Ownership quietly became renting.

Imagine describing beef to someone from the future: "So it's an animal that eats plants you can't digest, grows on land you can't farm, requires no electricity, purifies water through wetland grazing, builds soil while it moves, self-replicates, and produces complete human nutrition with 100% bioavailability?" "Yes." "And you almost got rid of it in favour of... a factory that uses petroleum to ferment microbes into protein slurry?" "The packaging said it was better for the planet." "..."

@TristinHopper I'd be happy to have you on Personal Landscapes podcast to talk about the madness in my home country. Every time I visit, I think it can't get any worse. Somehow, it keeps getting worse.

Papa Hopper was recently arguing with me that my book, Don't Be Canada, isn't actually that political and that "CBC should have had you on to talk about it." It's *very* hard to convince people raised in a normal country that they don't live in a normal country anymore.

You cannot publish a children's book these days unless it is DEI. Like even if the story is about barnyard animals, publishers won't even look at it unless one of the characters is DEI or you, as the author have a DEI angle. One publisher started giving her book some interest when they thought she was Indigenous. But she was honest and clarified their mistaken assumption, and then they ghosted her.

Thousands of Berliners are without electricity in sub-zero temperatures after an attack claimed by far-left terrorists. Vulnerable people are affected, yet this doesn't move activists and politicians like threats from the right. It should. @unherd👇 unherd.com/newsroom/germa…
