💬What if the city could spell? Photographer @heartpatrick turnes the urban fabric of Kuala Lumpur into a typographic exploration, searching for all 26 letters hidden within the city’s architecture. Using Google Maps as a starting point, the project evolved into a multi-week investigation that navigated neighborhoods, identified accidental geometries, and revealed how buildings can unintentionally form a visual language.

Did some research on Frank Lloyd Wright's prefab work. In 1901, Wright argued that machines should free humans for design work, not replace craftsmanship. That idea became an obsession. His first real attempt was the American System-Built Homes in 1911, which used factory-precut lumber shipped to sites for assembly. He drew 960+ sketches and 30 variations. He tried selling them through a dealer network like cars, starting at $2,750. His business partner was skimming payments, and when WWI hit and froze material production, Wright sued him and walked away. Only about 20 were ever built. In the late 1930s, he tried again with Usonian homes. These were simple, flat-roofed houses with radiant-heated concrete slabs and carports instead of garages. About 60 were built, but the cost of construction always creeped too high. By the 1950s, Wright admitted his "affordable" buyers were upper-middle-class. His next attempt was Usonian Automatic (1950s), which used interlocking concrete blocks that homeowners could theoretically DIY. One house required 48,000 individually cast blocks. Only seven were ever built. These photos look like jail cells to me (see photos below). His last attempt was a partnership with builder Marshall Erdman. He produced three prefab designs, and buyers were required to submit topographic maps for Wright's approval. He died in 1959 before the third design was built. Wright's vision of a standardized skeleton and infinite customization never found its market. It's essentially the same problem today's modular housing startups are still trying to solve.

@pnickdurham IIRC, Later in life Frank Lloyd Wright developed a schema to build n of 1 homes at levittown scale. Idea was to scale a basic skeleton frame that could by infinitely customized for individual owners. Sadly never took off!

This is a Nigerian Architect making IT happen - Success! A year ago he fell in love with rammed earth. Digging pictures up, looking at ways to make it in Nigeria, asking me questions, anything he could do ….he did. JUST MAKE IT! He did….he took the step and ……made it. That is when deisgn becomes real, and you can really start to see into it. His love turns into action! Now, he has lovely prototypes of his design made in Nigerian rammed earth. This is a SUCCESS STORY!

From concept to execution; our first rammed earth furniture prototype is in the works. The table top is detachable, making the piece modular and easy to move and assemble. This is a great step towards making rammed earth construction mainstream in Nigeria. Cc @eLyamus_

🚨Architects are going to hate this. Someone just open sourced a full 3D building editor that runs entirely in your browser. No AutoCAD. No Revit. No $5,000/year licenses. It's called Pascal Editor. Built with React Three Fiber and WebGPU -- meaning it renders directly on your GPU at near-native speed. Here's what's inside this thing: → A full building/level/wall/zone hierarchy you can edit in real time → An ECS-style architecture where every object updates through GPU-powered systems → Zustand state management with full undo/redo built in → Next.js frontend so it deploys as a web app, not a desktop install → Dirty node tracking -- only re-renders what changed, not the whole scene Here's the wildest part: You can stack, explode, or solo individual building levels. Select a zone, drag a wall, reshape a slab -- all in 3D, all in the browser. Architecture firms pay $50K+ per seat for BIM software that does this workflow. This is free. 100% Open Source.

@Mlamli_Nxusani Or the 1975 one that nearly made my dad drop out of university and become a full time volunteer preacher because the end of the world was supposedly coming in 1975! Then they denied the whole thing afterwards, after having made the claim in print! Horrible bunch of liars!

@DavidHundeyin Remember the abandoned belief that used to be highlighlighted in the Awake! about the world coming to the end before the 1914 generation had all died? The one they quietly dropped in the 1990s. Crazy cultish individuals, the JWs.

I remember back in 2006 when my older brother was a 5th year medical student at Korle Bu and he caused a big family quarrel during a brief holiday in Lagos where he mentioned casually that he regularly administered blood transfusions to his patients. My dad believed that as a Jehovah Witness, my brother should decline to take part in any medical procedure involving blood transfusion on religious grounds. He didn't even want to know whether such a refusal was even possible under the terms of medical practise (it isn't) - all he knew was that 12 white men in Brooklyn who regularly spoke to "Jehovah" had decreed it so, and how dare us children from a JW family not prioritise those instructions over everything else. And because he convinced himself that his placenta was tied to these stupid Jehovah's Witnesses, he went on to lose his whole family that he spent decades building an empire for, and he died rich, miserable and alone. His first child got married and didn't even inform him because she knew he wouldn't approve. His 2nd child (my brother) invited him to his wedding and he declined because the bride was Catholic. His 4th child (me) got married and he was also absent, and he never met any of the 2 grandchildren he had before he died confused and heartbroken. And after thoroughly fucking up his life, the cult just wakes up one day and changes the entire fundamental doctrine that made him go to war with his own children. There is no way to quantify the damage that has been caused here, and even if there were, oyibo man is definitely never going to pay. As in my dad's case and in the case of every other brainwashed, spiritually lost black person, African wey no gree get sense, na oyibo go kill am. All we can do is cry over spilled milk now.
UTV Ghana@utvghana

Jehovah’s Witnesses have revised their policy on blood transfusions, allowing members to have their own blood removed, stored, and reinfused during medical procedures. #UTVGhana
