@giffco When I think of RICE, I think back to physEd and injury treatment: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation 😀

Why does the product field over-index on RICE prioritization? It doesn't account for strategy. It doesn't account for ethics. It doesn't account for margin impact. It creates head-fakes of "truthiness" because numbers are used. 😖

@giffco I wonder if we'll evolve the saying "outcomes over outputs" to something like "process over outcomes". Process is overloaded though and some people perceive it as negative.

It takes a lot more work to teach, instill, and oversee good judgement than abdicating to data or creating policy rules, but it's a much better approach for a fast-paced environment with an aspiration to truly empower smart people /8

Rewarding PMs or any other kind of product team lead with promotions based on outcomes, as opposed to quality of decision making and execution, is essentially saying to your team: /1

@monkchips Before the summer holiday, I thought "we went through lockdown, this will be easy". Yeah, that was before.
