@TxGabeGrantham I like the raw score analysis as well, and (though limited to averages) is intuitive to interpret. Do you know if the test itself has changed over the years in ways that could have affected the scores?

But I am always a bigger fan of looking at raw scores. Texas 4th grade reading scores fell by 2 pts while 8th grade fell by 3pt. Both of these fell to the lowest levels in decades. Both in Texas and nationally, literacy is in crisis mode.

🚨🚨2024 NAEP scores are out! The "Nation's Report Card" gives us a glimpse at how students are doing 4 years out from COVID-19 and allows us to see how different states rank in terms of academic outcomes. My top takeaways 🧵🧵🧵

@charlesornstein @propublica It looks like the data is only for half the years? e.g., 2001-2002, 2003-2004 Is this a quirk of the way data is reported or should years be 01-02, 02-03?

My coworkers made this 11-city analysis of housing policy super accessible. Delving into zoning restrictions that limit housing supply, this explainer balances clear writing and data analysis with dynamic visuals. apps.texastribune.org/features/2024/…

Grim news, but I'm really impressed by how strong my new colleagues are on methodology. "A lot of the argument over climate change is: Why should we care if temperature goes up a degree...And this is one of the reasons why we should care." texastribune.org/2024/08/14/tex…

"They ran up and down the parking lot passing to each other, sometimes pulling up to shoot through an imaginary hoop. After each drill they stop to discuss what they can do next, the options limited with cars passing through the lot and no rim to shoot at.”

[EDIT] Public comments are underway. Frequent commenter Jessica Jackson is speaking in support of police superintendent Snelling, who she says is unfairly taking the rap for Chicago's crime. She blames corrupt aldermen and the corrupt circuit court system.
