@Eric_Erins Growing up in a Benjamin Marshall ruined me for life. Everything honestly pales.

My current apartment building was designed by the same architect as this one. He’s no Benjamin Marshall but he’s up there

Fixer upper apartment at 6901 S Oglesby Ave in South Shore. 3 beds 3 baths and a parking spot. 2.6K square ft. Needs work. $125K. Only 40 units in the building which explains the $1.7K/month assessment. I hear the HOA is working on righting the ship realtor.com/realestateandh…

@Eric_Erins There are lots of new housing co-ops and co-housing communities. Shared Capital, Chicago Community Loan Fund, National Cooperative Bank are some of the lenders.

Are there any new build housing coops in America or are they truly just a relic of the past?

@RoselandChi1972 Yeah, the instructions definitely seem earlier. It is so cool! I wish they had that in the gift shop when Tut came recently 😂

@brigidmania I'm about 95% sure it came from MSI earlier--I do remember and went to the '77 Tut exhibit, but I think the box itself backs up my memory that this was an MSI thing. That's not late '70s typography, for sure.

Cool Things I Found Cleaning Out My Center Desk Drawer #5: Magnetic King Tut in coffin, from Museum of Science and Industry gift shop, probably 1960s. Of course Egyptian stuff in Chicago is at the Field Museum of Natural History or the Art Institute, but this King Tut demonstrates the magic of magnetism, thus he fits in the MSI’s wheelhouse. Click through for more views of the box—a treasure itself of course—and even the instructions! Again, this is an incredibly big drawer. Somehow there’s also room for pens and paper clips etc. 1/3

@charlesornstein @propublica It looks like the data is only for half the years? e.g., 2001-2002, 2003-2004 Is this a quirk of the way data is reported or should years be 01-02, 02-03?

@charlesornstein @propublica For larger cities, are you going to break out private schools vs the most local public school. For example in Chicago, comparing a private school against the demographics of the entirety of CPS isn’t an actual comparison point. 1/2

What is the point for having Bryn Mawr as an on/off ramp to LSD when Hollywood is a block north. Does it alleviate that much congestion? I’m guessing it’s an IDOT thing?

@Eric_Erins @slucy and I have each separately done this. Think it is very worthwhile. And if you don’t need cash immediately, Hyde Park will always have a robust need for rentals.

In the U.S., kids are three times more likely to die in traffic on #Halloween than any other day of the year. Why? Just another example of the country's pedestrian safety crisis. The good news? We can fix it. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

@ItsMeFlashE At least in Chicago taxi drivers had to take special classes and test that included memorizing the streets in the city.

In today’s complaints about public transportation in Chicago, it took me 90 minutes to go 6.5 miles. I decided I wanted to go home at 1:15, I didn’t get home till 2:45. That is a 6x handicap on driving.
