High intensity exercise can improve cardiorespiratory fitness, reduce cardiovascular risk and provide psychological benefit in individuals with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. However, for these positive effects to have a lasting impact, regular exercise must become a consistent habit. So proud that my PhD work has just been published in EHJ. More data to suggest blanket exercise restriction in HCM may not be warranted. Patient selection is important but in this population vigorous exercise did not increase risk of cardiac events. That’s before considering the beneficial effects of exercise! jamanetwork.com/journals/jamac…
