Just been quoted £1.40/l for red diesel - more than double what we paid in December and far closer to the derv price - who is making money out of this? It’s certainly not me!

@GeorgeBurrell97 You need to try Ferappease on these bulls when mixing. So far my experience has been great - new bulls, bringing back from cows and grouping. It’s mBAS pheromone and takes the bull back to being with mum. Seriously have a go. Check out Ferappease.co.uk for more info

@bryanjdaniels Really worth looking at #ferappease for transition heifers: moving into pre calving, parlour training and helping with move to fresh calved: proven to #addressstress by reducing cortisol so minimising impact of stress on feeding, entering herd etc.

First 150 calves off to the contract rearer for 10 months. They never forget the taste of milk! Top speed of 25km/hr on their 2km run to the yards! This mob have been weaned for 3 weeks and now weaned off grain.

@HefinR One local arable farmer down here isn’t combining any spring barley or wheat. All sold to local dairy units to make up for missing 2nd/3rd cut, or into his own clamp for beef youngstock. Yielding 10-12T per acre according to forager. 300+ acres gone. 🤷🏻‍♂️

So many farmers caught in that trap now. It’s sad but lack of profit from core farming necessitates 🤷🏻‍♂️

But sure @SteveReedMP let’s all diversify cos it’s all rainbows and butterflies. The mainstream supply chain should be fair, farmers shouldn’t have to diversify, they produce food, you wouldn’t ask a doctor to diversify, it’s a fundamental NEED 8/9

@robdvet @monitorfarms Chose from a small elite health herd and a moderate type. Only black ones there but that was preference anyway. Calving ~120 Herefords next spring, I know from these cows bulls won't be ideal for others so making selection early! Some carry horned gene, poorer ebvs, legs, etc.

Taking a bit of getting used to😳🤣🙈 Suggestion from our @monitorfarms management grp was different breed of bull over some (22) less desirable cows for pedigree breeding & those that don't fit new system. Looking forward to seeing result. #monitorfarm26 #romanyherefords

@EdLister2 @cvfarming Agreed: cut not stop - many farmers already do a lot in partnership with own land usually for longer term reasons, and outside of these schemes as investing in future. There needs to be more to schemes than outsourcing food production but short-termism is the issue 🤷🏻‍♂️

@robdvet @cvfarming How will the governments con or lab meet their soil, water and air aims going forward without financial incentives?

Given how obsessive the government are being about a sum of £500mn, combined with Zeichners comment about not expecting money from government, I think it's safe to say 2.4bn of environmental grants will shortly be history. As I've said before, focus on your productive business.
