‘Durham’ by Mary Lister (AKA my gran!) who would have been 100 today. Only took up painting in her 80s. Takes pride of place on my wall.

Perfectly sound listed building The Antrim Arms , left to rot by its owner. An application to demolish recently refused, and now a ‘tragic’ fire which will no doubt be followed by another application to demolish and replace….. maybe I’m just cynical, but this stinks!
Love Ballymena@LoveBallymena

The Antrim Arms building, in the Diamond area of Ballycastle, is currently alight after a fire started around 20:15 tonight. 📸 McAuley Multimedia

📸🧵 Sunderland photo thread! In a change to our regular programming, I popped along to Sunlun today to have a look at the new bridge (amongst other things). Let's go! 1 / Looking north over the bridge (aka Keel Crossing)

Would this be in the much underutilised Neo-Medieval style?? Located in the middle of Norwich, I couldn’t find any info about it online but it gets a thumbs up from me!

@mesnowy Expect nothing less than the title now (realistically wouldn’t rule out us losing 10 on the bounce now and nose diving!)

Proudly celebrating the 200th anniversary of the world’s first passenger railway, in County Durham - despite the spurious claims of the Mancs and Scousers!
Today's Railways UK@TodaysRailways

Great to be in Darlington today for the #Railway200 celebrations on the 200th anniversary of the modern passenger railway, with the “Locomotion” replica recreating the first day of services back in 1825 on the restored Skerne Bridge near North Road station

Tyrone County Hall in Omagh, designed by Ostick and Williams and completed 1962. An eye catching modern civic building with some lovely little details. Not listed: ‘The building does not meet the criteria required to merit a full survey. It is modern.’ A little dismissive!!

@ALister2095 Good spot! I’m not there today, this is just representative of the 2 months it takes me to process anything!!

Ignoring the incredible carved stonework here… I’m drawn to the masonry joints within the trefoil, quatrefoil and cinquefoil, beautiful in their own right

@MrAbercrombie Plenty of ideas being exchanged between Belfast and Glasgow back then I would imagine. These walls look to be dry as a bone (other than below some dodgy gutters!) and no sign of issues with all that concealed iron.

@robertlister73 Interesting stuff! Glasgow City Chambers also built with a cavity wall type construction too apparently… (1882)

Finally got a section of this church properly opened up, and confirmed as having two 9” brick leaves and a 6” cavity with wrought iron ties, just as described. Pretty progressive for 1872, hats off to the architect John Lanyon.

Willowfield Church in East Belfast, built 1872 with brick elevations, but look at the original plan and section drawings and you see cavity walls?? An article at the time proclaimed ‘damp is eliminated by a six-inch space at all parts between the outer and inner walls… 1/2

Interesting tour around the grounds at Stormont today, with the Grade A listed castle and parliament buildings… but this classical substation was what really caught the eye!

Grey Point Fort in Helen’s Bay. Back open at weekends, free in and you get the run of the place, including the two whopping big guns looking out over Belfast Lough

An entire elevation of ‘LAVERTYS PATENT 5806’ bricks, all with a single horizontal groove presumably meant as a key for mortar. Caught my eye, anyway… North Street, Carrickfergus.
