Can a Flat Earther please explain how their model accounts for seasons and the fact that the Northern and Southern hemispheres are opposite?
I just explained how the globe makes sense of it to my 9 year old.
@PrismPrime@FlatEarthOrg@FlatEarthCity
@maxsec@RatStrydom@PrismPrime@FlatEarthOrg@FlatEarthCity your dismissive, 'off the top of my head' explanation is not clear. why would there be a difference between N and S at the same latitude (irrespective of circular or elliptical orbit? wtf)
@robin40199045@RatStrydom@PrismPrime@FlatEarthOrg@FlatEarthCity Yup.. off the top of my head because the earth's orbit is not a perfect circle and is further away at one point than 6 months later. Keplers laws - it's elliptical.
The sun paths don't come close to any Fe hypothesis.
@maxsec@RatStrydom@PrismPrime@FlatEarthOrg@FlatEarthCity repeat the experiment, pick a latitude, find a location with observed readings in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere matching the latitude, plot readings over time, integrate the area under the curve, different answers point to something amiss in (my) understanding.
@maxsec@RatStrydom@PrismPrime@FlatEarthOrg@FlatEarthCity You can have various models calculate the correct answers by adding in fudge factors, people were predicting eclipses and seasons before the globe model. In the middle ages the angels had to interfere with orbits to align with observations, today we have dark matter
@maxsec@RatStrydom@PrismPrime@FlatEarthOrg@FlatEarthCity treaty says this. I said you couldn't travel there *freely*. Of course people go there all the time to the various scientific outposts, a few fishermen and some military. I'd imagine it would be hard to stop enterprising people from exploring but this is the treaty
Going to Amsterdam for the day on Tuesday. Looking for suggestions of things to do that a 9 and 12 year old will also enjoy.
No red light district or "koffieshop" recommendations please 😉
@maxsec@RatStrydom@PrismPrime@FlatEarthOrg@FlatEarthCity no argument there, the point is that distances can be fubbed when few people go there (no one goes freely below 60 deg south by intl treaty). The sailor talks about the calculations that they use for magnetic declination to compensate when they are sailing.
