@creator_grimm I love going to the movies. I love watching with a roomful of strangers (or two strangers in a matinee of an obscure movie— even better). Or with an old friend, or a new friend… watching at home isn’t the same.

OK. So most of you hardly ever go to movies anymore, according to my extremely scientific poll. Why? Why don’t you go to movies anymore?

A small story about William Friedkin (may take a moment): I had the privilege to sit all day by the side of the master as he shot The Caine Mutiny. Day after day diring the shoot and a couple of times in preproduction. From call to wrap…

This one is particularly poignant because it is using an #AI film to point up the emptiness of lives (particularly of the young) when surrounded by #AI material. 2/

This week a financier exercised their option on a screenplay I wrote in 2008. I no longer own it. While I don't know if it will get made, it is already the most bizarre journey of anything I have written. Let me tell you about it. 🧵👇

@tclairsmith Oh nice! I appreciate the suggestion (anything helps lol). Mines a thriller but you never know!

@robin_singer I’m doing something similar, but in this case I’m killing off the typical main character and shifting to a side character as the actual protagonist. I’ve only now realized that I stole that from The Other Guys. I wonder if that’s a good reference for your script as well.

Can you think of a movie that misleads you into believing a character is the protagonist, only for another character to reveal themself as the main character near the end of Act I?

@TaraAnsley I can lay down and listen which is relaxing, and I like that they require me to imagine things, similar to reading. There’s also something intimate about having a story told to you. Writing wise, there’s almost always a good hook and cliffhangers.

@tclairsmith I tried to introduce a character as the protagonist to reveal her as the antagonist after act 1 and that did not really work (for me). I feel like there’s no reason it shouldn’t work with a smart audience? But I didn’t quite get there. Yet.

@QPORIT I kind of get while they’re trying to carve this out, but also think carve outs are a mistake at this point from the DGA perspective. A studio is never going to penalize you for using a tool for efficiency, whereas DGA members will lose out if the studio exploits loopholes.

@glenmazzara I did research on this exact topic and you’re totally right. Burns just lead to more potential infection. It’s not at all medically accurate.
