1/11 So the first 3 volumes of Smith's evidence against Trump are released. About 70% still sealed, but, pretty damning stuff, which is all either their own messages, or testimony from Republican staff under oath:

This is genuinely exciting. I think this has the potential to fill a very large gap in the research funding landscape in the U.K.

Never let them tell you that they're all the same. Never let them suggest politics makes no difference. Never listen to the siren voices who prioritise their political purity over winning. People who would have been sent to Rwanda now won't be, because Labour is in government.
The Telegraph@Telegraph

Sir Keir Starmer has killed off the Rwanda deportation plan on the first day of his premiership Labour insiders confirmed to The Telegraph that the scheme to deport migrants who arrived in the UK illegally to Rwanda was effectively “dead” Read more 👇 telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/…

@sasjkia Sorry you didn’t win for Labour here. But I didn’t see a single Labour event or canvasser in Brockenhurst. No door knocking. No signs. Nothing. I suppose it was not a target for Labour funding, but I think there were a lot of votes to be won. Such a shame.

Such relief today as we can finally start rebuilding our country. It didn't go our way in New Forest East but I am so proud that we have been able to get other seats in Hampshire - including Aldershot, Portsmouth North, Bournemouth West, Basingstoke - over the line. Thank you to everybody who supported the campaign. It has been a privilege to get to know and work with many of you.

@KarlaHolmboe It’s obviously a weaker effect the further south you are. You could see a green and pink glow that was faint but still amazing in Devon last night, but the photos make it look like much much brighter than the naked eye.

@PenumbraeLeo @theAliceRoberts Social groups, sure. Formal clubs, when that club isn’t a religious org? No, we should not tolerate that. And I don’t think the law does. If I moved to a village with one cricket club that wouldn’t have me because I am not a Christian that would rightly be called discrimination.

@robjcoops @theAliceRoberts It's something we should tolerate though. I have no problem with social groups forming that are exclusive to a particular religion.

Across the UK, non-religious parents and their children (and BTW that’s more than half of the population) face outrageous discrimination like this. And the only response seems to be: you should put up with it! Because a) it’s historical, b) you should be grateful for religion in schools because it’s the only thing that will teach your child good morals (what?!), and: c) Christianity is your only protection from Islam (old medieval argument, making a comeback it seems), Marxism (weird), Nihilism (really?) or Communism (favoured option in the 1950’s, still occcasionally trotted out).

@richardfidler Sorry but that’s not literally what you said. You said ‘lots of clubs do this’. ‘This’ being only allowing certain religions. Your point now seems to be that social groups attract people with similar demographics. I agree!

@robjcoops That’s literally what I said if you’d have read it. Clubs can’t ban others from playing but they have been set up to bring like minded people together whether that’s through work, religion or whatever. It’s pretty much how all sports clubs have been set up throughout history.

@richardfidler You think there are whole sports leagues that discriminate by sexuality/religion??? That’s sad. A quick google suggests even private clubs cannot do this by law. I bet you can’t name one that does. And if you can, someone should find a lawyer as there is money to be made!

@robjcoops Lots of sports clubs/leagues do this though whether it’s on the basis of job, country, religion or sexuality & it is totally fine and no one has an issue with it. May not be in the statutes that only *insert group* may join but teams are set up so like minded people are together.

@theAliceRoberts @AndySim62 I wrote to our local primary school prior to application and asked if being a humanist and assembling regularly would meet their criteria of organised worship. Their reply was *very* cautiously worded. Evidently they couldn’t even define exactly what that term meant.
