@bmreadel Well, the combine driving was easy, because I have pretty much been the primary operator of it for about 25 years or so. He would drive the trucks and unload grain. He decided (at 89) that he wasn’t comfortable driving trucks anymore. Conversation avoided…

How do you tell a parent it’s time for them to not be this harvest’s combine driver or truck driver? I know many have faced this dilemma, even if it’s driving a car- 84 yo dad wants to be a part of harvest but it’s becoming too dangerous for him and those around him. How do you approach it? What do you say to be kind and gentle? A farmer near me is asking g for advice; what’s yours?

@tmonteIH We use to have a White planter. Loved it until it until it just kept having some issues we couldn’t seem to fix. And we really didn’t have a great close. Had to trade it off for something that we got better service from the dealer. We still have a White 6195 though. For now…

One of the few fields I feel like a BTO. Half section of all mile long rows. Tractor even turns itself around. I just have to stay awake to lift up the planter.

@tmonteIH My dad will be 90 this fall. He was driving a tractor until last year and a grain truck until this winter. I’m still liking him around checking on me and being a ‘go-for’. Hope you get to enjoy farming with your dad as long as I have!

I know I complain about dad occasionally but, it sure is nice to have him out here covering ground with me this time of year. 70 years old this year and been renting/farming ground since he was in junior high. Started with a John Deere g.

@tmonteIH @AgLeaderTech I just have the trial version. I used it on my last field I planted and using it spraying now. I’m a Gen X’er and I love it.
