**🇪🇺🔫 THE EU'S €800 BILLION REARMAMENT PLAN IS ALREADY COMPROMISED — AND CHINA JUST PROVED IT** Ursula von der Leyen's "ReArm Europe" plan was supposed to be Europe's strategic independence. €800 billion in defence spending. €150 billion in joint procurement. Then China responded to EU sanctions within 24 hours — and the entire plan collapsed before it even started. --- **1/** On July 23, 2026, the EU sanctioned 14 Chinese and Hong Kong companies for alleged trade with Russia. Beijing's response was immediate and surgical: on July 24, it banned the export of dual-use goods, critical technology, and rare earths to 14 European entities. **2/** The targets are not marginal players. They are the **backbone of European defence**: - **🇩🇪 Rheinmetall AG** — Germany's largest defence contractor, the heart of European arms production - **🇫🇷 Cavok UAS** — drone and UAV technology - **🇨🇿 Tatra Trucks** — military-grade heavy vehicles - **🇮🇹 Lafert S.p.A.** — industrial electric motors for defence systems - **🇳🇱 Royal IHC** — naval engineering and shipbuilding - **🇵🇱 Vigo Photonics S.A.** — advanced infrared detectors for military use **3/** The "ReArm Europe" plan, presented by the European Commission, is designed to mobilise up to **€800 billion** in defence spending by 2030, including **€150 billion** in joint procurement loans. It was supposed to make Europe "safe and resilient." Now it's a **paper tiger**. **4/** Von der Leyen's plan requires that **65% of components** come from within the EU. But European defence firms depend on China for critical materials. Rheinmetall's CEO admitted in 2024 that the company was **70% dependent** on China for key components. **5/** China controls **66% of global rare earth production** and **88% of refining**. No rare earths, no semiconductors. No semiconductors, no missiles. No missiles, no rearmament. **6/** The EU's "strategic sovereignty" is a **self-deception**. Brussels spent years building a dependency on Russia for energy. Now it has spent years building a dependency on China for defence materials. **Same mistake, different supplier.** **7/** The Commission talks about "reducing dependence" while doing nothing to create alternatives. The SAFE programme allows **35% of components** to come from outside the EU — but Beijing has just banned that 35% for 14 key companies. **8/** This is not a temporary disruption. It is a **structural collapse**. Europe cannot rearm without Chinese materials. China has just demonstrated who holds the real leverage. **9/** The irony is crushing: the EU sanctions China to punish Russia, China cuts off the materials Europe needs to rearm against Russia. **Brussels is sawing off the branch it is sitting on.** **10/** The ReArm Europe plan is not delayed. It is not "under review." It is **dead on arrival**. China just pulled the plug on Europe's rearmament fantasy. And Brussels has no answer — except more sanctions. --- **✅ VERIFIED FACTS** - ✅ EU sanctioned 14 Chinese/HK companies on July 23, 2026 - ✅ China retaliated on July 24, banning dual-use exports to 14 EU entities, including Rheinmetall - ✅ ReArm Europe plan mobilises up to €800 billion, including €150 billion in SAFE loans - ✅ Rheinmetall is 70% dependent on China for key components - ✅ China controls 66% of global rare earth production and 88% of refining - ✅ The rearmament plan is structurally compromised by the supply chain disruption --- **FINAL VERDICT** The EU forgot to turn on its brain. It declared war on a supplier it depends on. It promised €800 billion in rearmament — but without securing the **supply chain** to build anything. China responded in 24 hours. The plan is compromised. The defence industry is crippled. And Brussels is still talking about "sanctions." **€800 billion. Zero materials. One disaster.** --- #EU #China #Rearmament #RareEarths #Rheinmetall #StrategicFailure #Geopolitics #StrategicAnalysis > 🧭 My work focuses on decision-oriented strategic analysis. > Not commentary.
