NEW: Texas officer investigating a fire on private property shoots a dog after being attacked Last Friday, Arp Police Officer Pereida responded to a large fire behind a residence. While approaching the fence line to check if the home was in danger, two dogs crawled under the fence and attempted to attack him. The officer fired two shots from his service pistol, striking one dog. The injured dog fled, and the second dog continued to approach. Bodycam footage was activated after the shots and shows part of the encounter. The dog’s owner later told the chief that “everyone around here knows my dogs will bite” and that the officer should have taken a bite instead of shooting. Chief Joe Keegan reviewed the footage and ruled the officer’s actions legal and appropriate. The dog ultimately required euthanasia.

this is completely the family‘s fault even if this is your property you can’t just start a big fire and then expect nothing to happen. If you were even going to attempt this, you should call the nonemergency police firefighter lines and tell them what you’re doing so if someone calls you out that nothing is wrong and if they still wanna check it out, you have these dogs on your premises so don’t come onto the property here’s my number and to call me or they can come right away and you can meet them out front or tell them to go around to a safe spot where they don’t have to go in your yard who does this and doesn’t think anything is gonna happen. That fire is literally bigger than the house. You cannot just do this and expect nothing to happen. I don’t care where anyone says this is the families fault. This officer is innocent. He protected himself from a dog in a situation where he didn’t know what was going on.
