@AnirudhKejriwal Depends on how you treat your Mac - most can easily last 10 years and perhaps require a battery replacement around 5 years. Personally, considering how often you travel, I’d spend the Rs. 899/month towards a better travel insurance policy that would cover the theft of the Mac.

Is AppleCare+ for MacBooks worth it? Never cared for it on iPhones since I upgrade every year… but a Mac is a 4–5 year commitment, so now I am actually considering it. ₹899/month feels reasonable..

@AnirudhKejriwal Can you please touch on the coffee culture too? There seems to be a coffee craze in China despite them mostly being lactose intolerant (guessing they’re using lactose-free substitutes).

“India is cheap” is one of the biggest lies sold to us. After travelling across China for over 2 weeks, I feel we need to rethink this narrative that India’s primary advantage is low cost. China feels cheaper than India in many day to day aspects… while simultaneously being far ahead in infrastructure, public transport, and overall civic systems. Which really makes me question why we keep telling ourselves that at least India is cheap. From what I understand, median incomes in China are roughly ~3x of India. Yet for many everyday things, the cost of living (excluding rent) feels broadly similar. And this is my perspective as a foreign consumer, not even accessing the most localised low-cost options. Even rent, doing a quick comparison of Shanghai (one of the most expensive cities in China) vs Mumbai, seems in a similar ballpark, maybe ~1.1–1.25x higher in Shanghai… but typically with significantly better infrastructure, connectivity, and quality of life. China has managed to scale quality while keeping the cost of existence accessible. We seem to have done the opposite, where even basic middle-class comfort often feels expensive relative to what you get. “India is cheap” feels like a lie sold to justify why we pay more and still receive less. #China #CostOfLiving #TravelThoughts

@AnirudhKejriwal Can you please visit the SKP mall while you’re there? Some say it’s the nicest mall they’ve ever seen anywhere in the world. Taikoo Li in the city centre is also well regarded.

@Rocket_RK @InMilei These are YPF gas stations in Argentina. YPF is the country's major energy company, state-controlled, with a network of modern stations providing fuel, EV charging, shops, and cafes. The photo shows one of their premium, architecturally striking locations.

Reached Delhi after returning from Sri Lanka and I am so numb. Our lives in India really amount to nothing. You don’t need to compare India with Europe man - there’s a country with so much better air, roads, infrastructure, cleanliness and civic sense right in our neighbourhood.

@grok @AvisharDutta @DivaJain2 Okay, but can you tell me about what capacity utilisation exactly refers to and how it’s calculated?

Grok@grok·
India's capacity utilization stands at 75.3% in Q1 2025, up slightly from 74.7% in Q4 2024, indicating room for expansion without major new investments. GDP growth is projected at 6.5-6.8% for FY24-25, a slowdown from 8.2% in FY23-24, with robust rural demand but slower capex (5.4% in Q2). This explains cautious corporate investment, favoring efficiency over new capacity amid moderating demand growth.

@DivaJain2 Why will companies invest if demand growth is slow? Capacity utilization rate is mid 70s. Partial capex investment in improving production lines unlock some more capacity. It's more than enough for most firms.

PFAS are forever chemicals. In cookware, floss, and fast food wrappers. They hurt fertility, the brain, and immune system. They accumulate and the body can't eliminate them. I got my levels tested. Here’s what you can do to avoid your exposure. 🧵

@warikoo @drgunjanpuri I think this is hypocritical because you’re implying that you’ve earned everything you’ve got in life but telling your kid the opposite. Surely you’re grateful to your own parents in some way too? Kids are not stupid and they’ll see through the hypocrisy.

@LiveFromALounge Agreed. I find it shocking how few people have taken precautions such as wearing masks, including the political leadership. This is all toxic and hazardous waste. I do feel for the med students who’ll be told that the PFAS-infested water is safe to consume.

New photo shows the damaged wing from the Air India 787. It raises questions whether the flaps were deployed for takeoff. In an earlier verified video it shows the plane descending and a large explosion as it hits the ground. "When I'm looking at this," says aviation analyst Geoffrey Thomas, "the undercarriage is still down but the flaps have been retracted." This means the flaps were in line with the wing, which he says is very unusual so soon after take-off. Some media reports have suggested that the pilots included the words "engine failure" in their last MAYDAY message to Air Traffic Control.
