I'm leaving Twitter, for obvious reasons. I'll still check this, but let's connect on Bluesky!

...But before I leave I need to share this amazing article with you all!

‼️New pub alert‼️ Woke up to see this out today in @SocialMedia_Soc! In this study, we seek to understand disclosure among those with intersecting stigmas in Mumbai. This work also brought me to India last year where I finally got to meet our wonderful collaborators in-person!

@CaulfieldTim Thanks for sharing Tim! Happy to discuss more with anyone

“They Only Silence the Truth”: COVID retractions & the politicization of science journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/09…
Retractions an important tool in the correction of research record.
But, as this study shows, they can be framed & spun to support anti-science positions & conspiracy theories.

@MishaTeplitskiy Nice review! You might also like "Making Nature," which covers the history of Nature journal. Some overlap between the two, but gets more into the internal politics of (prestige) journals.

Really enjoyed this book by Alex Csiszar

Some thoughts on how it informs the science of science literature
1. Commercial "distortion" of sci lit
2. Knowledge diffusion / overload
3. History of peer review
4. History of metricization of science

It's so exciting to see my friends' work published! Please take a look at Rod's terrific new paper in which he analyzes scientific retractions and (counter)publics reception in the context of highly politicized events.

New publication alert! 🚨 Scientific retractions are increasingly being spun into conspiracies about science on social media. Agnes Horvat and I document this worrying trend in the context of COVID-19. Read it open access: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/09… #Retractions #SciComm #COVID19

@b_penders 8) A creative solution: Sergio Sismondo suggests that science could reduce the influence of pharmaceuticals in science if publishers agreed to (temporarily?) limit industry submissions to science journals.

7) What are the epistemic challenges of AI? @b_penders discusses some conditions under which AI can be considered legitimate in science.
English

5) What do retractions do for science credibility? @Maarten_Derksen points out that corrections may undermine more foundational tenants of scientific practice. Calls to mind @zephoria's Jenga tower.
English

4) Is transparency always desirable? @NicoleCNelson argues that describing the reasons for retraction won't necessarily convince skeptical audiences of the legitimacy of the retraction.

At the roundtable on #scientificcorrections at @STSeasst! I will live tweet some important points.
English

@MaxRossmann @STSeasst @_Nano_Bubbles I'll be there! Similarly, I'm presenting research on retractions on Tuesday at 10:30 that you may be interested in (Panel P089).
