Hey friends, my debut novel is out *right now* and you can ask your local bookshop to order it, or else grab a copy here.

@steve_l15 Love it! This is the kind of content that justifies the Internet's continued existence. I don't think it's possible to overstate how impressive a win this was. Hopefully can form a psychological bedrock for a big, big season.

Had a crack at trying to rank the Brumbies top 5 wins* of the last 30 years after their away win over the Crusaders on Sunday.
* = GF and B&I Lions wins excluded.

@haribaldijones @MegafoonRugby @LekkerRugbyPod Don't get caught up with notions of delayed gratification and future reward. In the long run, we are all dead. This Sunday afternoon just gone, for at least 2 hours, the Brumbies were the best rugby team in the world!

@ARenardson @JohnBFergo Yep, I got this, too after 45 minutes. Now I'm hedging my bets by getting in the queue on 2 different devices. But, also, getting hungry/grumpy/hangry!

Rugby positions explained:
1,2&3 nice wee chubby guys. One of them has to be brainy. Often a GP.
4&5: the two tall ones. One has to be brainy. They take turns each at being sin binned.
6,7&8: two of them are called flankers and look normal ish. One of them is called the number 8. Not sure which.
9 wee jolly guy. Likes to kick the ball straight in the air.
10 brains, nice hair, knows roughly what’s going on
11&14 fast, tries not to get too involved
12&13 two actual athletes who have got involved by accident
15 big show off, boots it, catches it, boots it again

Many thanks to Emma Rayward and Meanjin(!) for this thoughtful review of Here Are My Demands. All my world-building was not for nothing! (And now I'm inspired to go harder in my next spec-fic effort...) meanjin.com.au/latest/put-it-…

@1KarenWyld Worth celebrating (even on the hellsite)! Congratulations!!

I know many have abandoned this hellsite and most posts get hidden by the algorithm, but that won't stop me sharing good news.
Back in October, I signed a book contract with UQP. And they've just done the official announcement, so I guess it's real now uqp.com.au/blog/uqp-acqui…

Me last weekend, taking in some sport during a break at the Short Story Festival
#ManOfThePeople

English

This weekend, the Australian Short Story Festival is on in Adelaide. It's always a great vibe, so get along if you can. I'll be moderating a couple of sessions. On Saturday night, there's a 'Complaint Letters' event that should be good fun. More here: australianshortstoryfestival.com/2025-program/

@steve_l15 A lot of yen -- but I for one accept the charges! If he can get his hands on the ball, Corey should get some space out there this weekend...
English

@TalksRugby That's the conclusion I've reached, too.
I caught the highlights of Exeter's game last week and it looks like they sorely need some Aussie flair! Hooper and Len starting should make a big difference.

@steve_l15 Going into this game with 2023 levels of wanting the Wallabies to win, but with 2025 levels of hope. A dangerous combination!
