Good recap of ABA's strong opposition to the misguided IRS reporting proposal. As @JCBallentine makes clear, we stood shoulder to shoulder with bank customers on this issue before, and we will stand with them again if this bad idea resurfaces.

Banks have fought hard against a proposal to require them to report some account data to the #IRS but the fight is far from over. Peep the latest @BankshotPod here: americanbanker.com/podcast/banks-… Feat. @BrendanPedersen @ABABankers @ICBA @CharlesRossotti

This isn't a partisan issue, this is an American issue. We don't search without cause and that's exactly what this IRS account monitoring/reporting policy would do.
Jill Castilla@JillCastilla

The bank account monitoring proposal is still in play, but your voice is making a difference. Keep calling. If you have inflows or outflows averaging $834/month in a year, this impacts you! See below for directory for your delegation.

“The IRS experiences over 1 Billion cyber-attacks a year, and adding new data would expose even more customer data to fraud risks,” said Lorrie Trogden in her interview with @5news

@hmheadlee @taxes ICBA has a campaign going. They say a large number of messages have been sent. This is a huge privacy issue; I’m stunned it hasn’t garnered much attention.

@rogerbeverage Surprisingly, I haven’t heard much if any discussion from members publicly on this provision. But we need to start calling them out to find out where they stand. This isn’t a question @taxes. This is a question @privacy, freedom and the role of gov’t.

He is using this as an excuse to require banks to share details of every deposit or withdrawal over $600 in every bank account of every citizen and business, with the federal government. This is outrageous & it's in the $3.5 trillion bill unless Ways & Means removes it this week!
President Biden Archived@POTUS46Archive

$163 billion — that’s how much the top one percent evades in taxes they owe each year. It’s unacceptable. We’re going to change that with my Build Back Better Agenda, and use that money to invest in the middle class.
