@WheatWatcher @stationmum101 No ban, it’s a product that seems to do what it’s supposed to, safely from what I can see, like many other tools we use in Ag. Whether it’s necessary is debatable, but if other methane reducing alternatives mean smaller herd numbers or new taxes… Ag loses.

Unscientific Poll: Should the regulator-approved feed additive bovaer be banned? There is a lot of discussion about bovaer and whether it should be allowed as a feed additive. What do you think?

@Gazzagunna Depends whether you consider a “day” as a rotation or a time based event. The time it takes to orbit the sun isn’t changing nearly as much. 0.03% over the last 4.5 billion years. I have enough on my plate without worrying about errant dwarf planets 😜

@rojo8410 As earths rotation slows, the years get longer The thing is something, a brown dwarf star, a planet?, will pass between the earth and the sun, moving the earth closer to the sun, causing massive earthquakes , famine,and pestilence ? 360 days will = 1 year The 360° circle 🤷‍♂️

The bible speaks of changing the times and seasons, I interpret this to mean the earths rotation around the sun to be altered and return to its origiinal 360 day year cycle that the appointed times are based on? Expect a brown dwarf star or some other planet to interact with 🌏?

@drianwright I guess what you’d have to ask yourself is would you be happier if it were tomatoes or potatoes utilising whatever the final amount of water is that govt allocates. I suspect some just don’t want development of any kind, cotton being a convenient target.

@EuanRitchie1 @noisywomanMP @katew5000 @tanya_plibersek No, that’s not true Euan…cotton can be grown purely as a dryland crop with some very successful examples already in the NT…of course anyone granted access to water would want to use it to increase yield and reliability.

@IamFarmerRenee @noisywomanMP @katew5000 @tanya_plibersek I’m not going to continue to play these games, you and I both know cotton growers will at times need to extract water from N.T. river systems to ensure a harvest. Then there’s the horrific impact of land clearing. Four Corners will expose some of this, this week.

I implore everyone to watch & share this, & to then write to your local MP, Minister @KateW5000 & @Tanya_Plibersek with your views. We can't repeat the mistakes of southern Australia. A small minority's desire for $$$$ shouldn't trump conserving culture, Country, & wildlife.

@WheatWatcher Irrigated cotton returns about $1000/mg gross. Cattle feedlots return about $320000/mg gross Which do bureaucrats subsidise? Which has the highest value use? Which optimises social, environment & economic returns? Which is more likely to be in the National interest?

How is a position at NSW irrigators considered an ‘ethical job’? The last thing they do is ‘contribute to a more equitable/ environmentally sustainable world’. I’d argue a lot of the time they do the opposite… *I support irrigation but NSWIC are not ethical* @EthicalJobs

@JaneCaro I’m not sure what you’re getting at, farmers are allocated resources solely by govt departments. We must assume those various depts take on board the environment, and that allocated water to farmers is then meant to be used productively. It’s not a farmers call.

@rojo8410 My point was not the cotton, per se, mostly the uncontrolled, because it's un-measured, diversion of water by floodplain harvesting.

$2Billion worth of export cotton from the northern Murray Darling basin is causing $24 Billion in lost production from diverse irrigated agriculture downstream. Lives destroyed, communities diminished for the enrichment of a few. Gov't says nothing to see here.#keepfarmersfarming

Australian cotton is used in blends with other cotton to improve the overall quality of the thread… There are some 100% Australian cotton products to support too, a quick internet search is all you need 👍🏻

Science provided a guide, it’s up to decision makers to weigh up the pros and cons of implementing those recommendations in part or in full. Irrigators are bound by their licence conditions, they are doing nothing wrong.
