Great news to hear Met Éireann are moving to more detailed weather warning system rather than county by county.

Met Éireann says it will replace countywide warnings with a new localised system from late 2026. In response to my PQ, it said it is developing a polygon-based model dividing the country into sub-county zones, allowing warnings to target specific areas rather than entire counties

Weather models continue to show a cold snap from around Friday 13th for a few days. We will sadly see more rain before that. First video shows forecast of upper air temperatures and second the forecast rainfall for Europe next 10 days.

A significant stratospheric warming will occur in the coming days, which will substantially weaken the polar vortex (the video shows its development over the next 14 days). 🧐 It will split into two smaller cells, one of which will gradually dissipate. Such a weak polar vortex may allow further pronounced intrusions of Arctic air into the mid-latitudes during February. 🥶

Another low system to watch is one potentially to the South of Ireland Tuesday that could bring us more heavy rain and further increase the risk of flooding in parts of South and East.

The rain continues and sadly more rain to come for Ireland and many parts of Western and Southern Europe over the next 10 days. The chances of a Beast from the East for Ireland look very small now with possibly a very short spells of colder air around the 26th. Many other parts of Central and Eastern Europe will see colder air move in. Video shows total rainfall forecast and upper air temperatures.

Weather models throwing out some cold Easterly charts that will make for great clickbait fodder but ensembles show chances are still low for now. Interesting to follow and see how it develops but don’t go stocking up on bread just yet😁
