Just 3 days ago, OpenAI began releasing an update allowing GPT-4 to recognize images. I'm truly amazed by how people are already applying it in their lives. Here are 10 incredible examples:

@davidfowl Depends if you're still building platform, or have matured with decent observability and standardisation.

This is a *perfect* example of how an overly literal interpretation can screw you over and cause great harm. In finance, "segregation of duties" means the person who submits expenses shouldn't also be the person who approves those expenses. In tech, it means get a code review.
Michael Smith@msmith16384

@mipsytipsy @fintechdevcon Thanks for this! Have you had to deal with the new segregation of duties requirements in ISO 27002:2022 yet? Some of them seem not very fun, like (d) looks like it’s saying you can’t develop code and also operate it. isms.online/iso-27002/cont…

The single biggest argument about statistics: is probability frequentist or Bayesian? It's neither, and I'll explain why. Buckle up. Deep-dive explanation incoming.

A common misunderstanding about technical debt is that it's incurred by releasing "bad code." That's incorrect. It's a metaphor for releasing a model that you know is wrong based on new knowledge. The team releases with debt in order to receive feedback earlier than if time were taken to improve the model immediately. (You'd probably rarely/never release.) Still, the model can't remain wrong, or the team will continuously stumble over it. As concepts grow, the model will cascade into deeper debt, eventually making it impossible to bring into harmony with increasing knowledge. Soon, it's bankrupt. Bad code is a different problem, making the model difficult to understand, correct, and improve, eventually leading to full entropy.

For a @Microsoft company, @LinkedIn and @LinkedInHelp seem almost unwilling to help. My wife would like access to her account restored - its crazy that it's so hard to get help!
Chrissy Dobbs@chrissy_r_dobbs

Hey @LinkedIn & @LinkedInHelp My account was hacked over 2 weeks ago and changed to look like someone else’s. You’re not replying to my direct emails and support tickets. Poor show - please return my identity! I’m completely locked out! #identitytheft

Yes. The Starfleet delta on Spock's hat in #StarTrekSNW's "Charades"⬆️ is flipped. But that's obviously a callback to this shot of Kirk from "The Way to Eden"⬇️, right? Right? 😋😋

Tomorrow I set off for a supported FKT attempt on the Long Trail, excited to explore a beautiful area & spend time w/ great people. The trail runs the length of Vermont, 273 miles through the Green Mountains on technical trail w/ ~66K ft of elevation gain. live.enabledtracking.com/ltfkt2023/

There's a constant back and forth between declarative DSL and full-on imperative code. This is because there's no "right" answer, just different tradeoffs. I'll say that I'd prefer something statically typed checked and Turing complete 😀

I find the loosely typed configuration systems that surround the cloud native space to be wholly unproductive. The amount of time spent copy and pasting things back and forth throughout various parts of yaml only to have it fail after in some extremely obscure way is infuriating.
