I watched the woman sweep, then wet the cobblestone from her tin bucket to keep the dust down. Lord discover my cobblestoned heart, sweep out the dregs that accumulate there. Then wash me with your Holy Spirit that I may not cloud life with grot but life and light.

A friend reminded me it’s easy to have hope when things are good, it takes courage to have hope when things are tough. Patient good Lord give us courage to hope in things unseen and face our trial, faith to remember you are with us, and love to walk together.

I am going to say it again, because sometimes in Texas I have to do so. Religious freedom means we will minister to and with ALL whom God loves. I have said this when we were told we couldn’t serve meals to the hungry, take care of the immigrant/migrant/ undocumented. I have said it about women’s full access to health care. Today I have to say it about the LGBTQ+ community. I will also say it about our ecumenical and interfaith brothers and sisters- our Abrahamic kin. Scapegoating the few for political gain is not governing - it is oppressing.
