FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - RESIGNATION OF PRESIDENT RUTO I, @WilliamsRuto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-In-Chief of the Defence Forces, AWARE that the overwhelming majority of Kenyans have withdrawn their support for me and my government; CONSCIOUS of Article 1 of the Constitution, which vests sovereignty on the People of Kenya, and empowers them to exercise that sovereignty indirectly through their elected leaders, or DIRECTLY; and RESPECTING the People’s decision to recall me and my government; I, hereby announce the DISSOLUTION of the Kenya Kwanza government, and my RESIGNATION, effective July 12, 2024 at midnight. As directed by the People of Kenya, I shall handover my powers and responsibilities under the Constitution, to the Chief Justice who shall serve as the chair the civilian National Transitional Authority (NTA), made of up of 54 representatives, one from each Kenyan nationality. I am instructed to announce that the NTA will be chosen by The People’s Colloquium to be established in the coming days. The NTA will reconstitute the IEBC, which shall conduct fresh presidential and general elections within three months of today’s date. Finally, I am directed to announce that the NTA will institute an independent investigation of all political assassinations, allocations of public land, misappropriation of public resources and other acts of organized criminal activities, which have had negative impacts on the people of Kenya from 1963 to today’s date.
