It's 3:40 at night. A sleepless night. I am not used to waking up early, but my train is at 6.00 AM. I have to leave home by 5.00AM.. Only one thought is going around in my mind,"Will I be able to wake up at 4.00am?" Because of this tension, I could not sleep at all tonight. But this sleepless night also feels emotional. Because tomorrow is not an ordinary day. Tomorrow is the oath ceremony of Bengal's first BJP Chief Minister. A new chapter in history will begin. I have to be there in Kolkata. I really do not want to miss this moment.

My parents left Calcutta when they were 26 years old when they got better paying jobs in Delhi University. They lived in Delhi for the next 45 years, but always referred to Calcutta - amaader Kolkata - as their home. It was a Calcutta that was shaped through selective snapshots of nostalgia. So, they went back in their 70s, only to find an alien city, which they were still determined to call their own. It didn't last. Within a few years they fell sick, accelerated by indifferent medical help, and had to come back to Delhi NCR, where their children could keep an eye on them. It was a misadventure, late in life, which diminished their spirit, and hastened their death. I, who was born in Delhi and grew up here, had also been infected by their idyllic remembering of Calcutta, and lived for long with a sense of anemoia for the city. For my parents Calcutta (pronounced Cal-cutter in English with a silent 'r') was always Kolkata in Bangla. But when it actually, officially, became Kolkata, it was no longer their home.
