My Patroclus design inspirations are both gorgeous; it's normal if my art alternates between short and long hair they're the same guy 🙏💕

@room7632 i feel like he is going to reheat the yaoi nachos in a mediocre way and there's gonna be a whole song about ptrch (most likely disregarding the whole briseis situation) and someone (prob odysseus or agamemnon) will make a gay joke to achilles. i have a lot of predictions.

Homer: "Patroclus is kind so he fights in Achilles's stead to give a reprieve to his wounded comrades. Slays a demigod. Says he could have beaten 20 men like Hector if Apollo didn't intervene" Most modern retellings: "did he say Achilles's innocent little twink?" Supergiant: "no"

Remember in the Iliad when Achilles refused to eat because he was grieving and food not cooked by Patroclus is tasteless? I'm glad tomolife allows him to be just as dramatic

I could write an entire thesis praising the writing in Hades I & II as regards to the characters of Achilles, Patroclus, and Odysseus because Supergiant should get MORE recognition not just for the gameplay and music but for the way they just GET the Iliad and the Odyssey

@Ninastasia_ but I agree that a happy ending for Odysseus in Hades II could have been perfectly adequate too. I'm just a bit weary of how popular memory made the Odyssey into a story about how much he loves his little nuclear family and that feels inaccurate to me on MULTIPLE fronts

@Ninastasia_ To me, it feels accurate to a pessimistic reading of the Odyssey. His story didn't feel like a case of "I miss my wife & son" but rather "I'm sick of being a goddesses's plaything & long to go back to wearing the pants back home" but honestly idk I'd need to re-read the Odyssey

@room7632 I say change in the sense that like traditionally the olympians are depicted as like perfected greek figures visually Hades having them cover a wider spectrum of humanity feels perfectly bigger in scope for the gods and helps make everyone even more distinct in the game

@4BitsComic I wouldn't even call it a "change." I don't think the gods are meant to depict "races" (in the cultural sense of the word) so much as a diversity of skin tones, sexualities, personalities, etc. Which is believable even of Ancient Greece. It makes them pluralistic & relatable

@room7632 if we are talking about mythology changes that I love from Hades Having the olympian gods be completely different races is such an inspired choice. Like these are the beings that humanity is basically shaped after and they are a giant messed up family from different lineages too

@aenalepsis Genuinely Hades Patchilles is SUCH a love letter to the Iliad. Made the two of them a union of true equals DESPITE their inequality, just as Homer intended. They stand as individual characters but their narratives are entertwined. They fight together when paired. SUPERGIANT ILU

@aenalepsis I completely agree. I think it's also a lack of understanding of what makes Patroclus so compelling. Supergiant somehow gave Pat his own individuality and authority (he heals you or empowers you) AND HE FIGHTS AS A DUO WITH ACHILLES, which are ALL thematically relevant!!
