@Rich_Harris @isaacfink123 @sveltejs To generalize: the pattern is to synchronize a state with an external system, and making it easily available globally. I can think of 3 technologies at least: IndexedDb, websockets, server sent events. As for use-cases, we can imagine at least a few:

Are you considering to add support for +page.svelte.ts and +layout.svelte.ts in SvelteKit @Rich_Harris @sveltejs ?

@Rich_Harris @isaacfink123 @sveltejs It's for an offline first (SSR = false). I want to load data from IndexedDb, mapping to runes (IndexedDb got a subscriber capability like svelte stores) and making them globally available for all pages of the app by returning them from the root +layout file.

@isaacfink123 @rootsikal @sveltejs as for concrete use cases, i don't have anything specific in mind — i'd also be interested to know what people would use it for

@Rich_Harris @sveltejs Not false. Both starting by s, same length, two 'e's... Renaming server seems an unlikely possibility, so I guess it would mean... renaming svelte. Please don't pick vue or react, those names are taken already 😅

@rootsikal @sveltejs We haven't really thought too much about that yet, but it seems like a possibility. Very visually similar to .server.ts though which could be a source of confusion. In the meantime your +page.ts can import from a sibling .svelte.ts file
