@ropio2000 Messi had a fantastic tournament. So did Rodri. The judging panel valued Rodri’s overall influence more highly, which is why he received the official award.
@adriansal80 Messi was better than the 2022 world cup. Most dribbles, most chances created. 12 scoring contributions.
Rodri wasn't even Spain's best mid
@ropio2000 MOTM awards recognise a single match. Player of the Tournament recognises performances across the entire tournament. They’re different awards with different criteria, and Rodri was judged the best overall.
@ropio2000 You’re confusing team success with individual performance. Rodri dictated every Spain game, including the final. Messi had better attacking numbers, but football isn’t decided by goals and assists alone. That’s exactly why Rodri won the award.
@ropio2000 You’re proving my point. You’re judging a complete footballer by attacking numbers alone. Rodri controlled every phase of Spain’s tournament from the opening game to the final. Messi was outstanding, but Rodri was the more complete performer over the tournament.
@adriansal80 LOL. Goal kickers? Argentina made the final thanks to messi. Scored 8 and assisted 5 if you include the assist they took off him for a slight deflected header
@ropio2000 Also for the record, I'm a huge Messi fan, I just think start to complete finish Rodri was better. You can't just be blinded by the goal kickers
