It’s an interesting debate. Of course the player themselves when negotiating the terms of their contract are free to request that their club receive a certain amount of money.

I haven’t listened to all of this, but I strongly disagree with the take. Clubs don’t deserve any compensation whatsoever. How can an amateur organization possibly determine what someone is “worth”? The only people who should have any say in that are Kobe and his family.
