Wherever Xabi Alonso ends up next season, it’s probably important that he replicates the dynamic he had with Simon Rolfes and Fernando Carro at Leverkusen. Those three were close and there always seems to be so much trust between them. The coaching and players made the 2023-24 season, but it occurred within a really stable environment.

Would we have accepted a draw at Villa and a win against Leeds, with West Ham losing both of their games? Yes. Obviously it doesn't work like that but if we get something out of both games remaining I think we stay up and that's up to us.
