Because they were some of the worst collaborators and deserved it. Crimean Tatars were extremely cruel to the Russians and the Jews during the German occupation of Crimea and actively participated in mass murders. The Red Army veterans from Crimea, many of whom were Tatars themselves, wanted to kill all of them, and Stalin actually saved their lives by deporting them elsewhere.
